I live on Ainsworth Circle in Hadley. While drinking my coffee I watched the neighbor exit his house with his two dogs, walk across the street into the yard almost up to the house ( these people are not yet retired, so they arn't here) and allow both of his dogs to go in the yard. He then took the dogs back across the street.

I watched, waited and finished my coffee and the I went and picked up what his two dogs left behind and returned it to him. He was a bit surprised. He told me he always picked up after his dogs. Well he didn't this time so why should I think this time is different from any other?

Here's a question. Who ever said it was OK to use a neighbors yard as long as you pick up after the dog? Where did that come from? How did my yard get mixed up in what you do with your dog? Your house, Your dog, Your yard!!! Not mine!!

Please, if you want to walk a dog, let it use YOUR YARD and then go for a walk.

Couldn't agree more. We will be bringing two with us (which will be soon) and they will do their "business" in their own yard. It is called common courtesy and respect for other's property. Sometimes it is hard to stop them when walking down the street, but to go directly to another yard and back home says a lot about the owner - lazy.

Wow...As a dog owner, I can tell you I would never have the nerve to do such a thing! That is truly discourteous! While I intend to walk my dogs in their own yard and try to get them to do their business there, dogs are unpredictable! If they were to "go along the way" I certainly would pick up after them! I always have bags with me (unfortunately even when I don't need them!). Anyways, I am sorry to hear this news and hopefully these types of bold actions do not happen on a regular basis!

Good Job Jim. If more folks did as you did we would not end up with poop in our yard a couple of time a week. I watch for them but they must be doing it before sun up. I wish there was some way for the police to fine them when they get caught. Maybe word would spead and it would stop.

There is no excuse for not picking up after your dog, especially when you are close to home if you get caught without a baggie and can quickly get one and go back. BUT, I have had dogs my entire life and there is an old saying "a dog never poops in his own yard" which holds true more often than not. My dog needed to be exercised (walked) before she would be stimulated to have her bowel movement. She would then pull up when she had the urge, which was rarely in my yard. Dogs pick up the scents from other dogs which stimulate them to do their business. Most dog owners would prefer NOT to have their dog do their business in someone else's yard, but dogs don't like going in the road and rarely in their own yard. My dog passed away last year, but I tried to avoid non-dog owner yards completely, and even then retricted her sniffing to just off the curb and ALWAYS picked up. In my 10 years here in TV I have only had two homeowners complain after my dog urinated on their grass by the curb, and I always avoided those properties. Both homeowners were nasty about it..."I don't p___ on your yard so don't let your dog p__ on mine!" rather than "Please don't allow your dog to urinate on my grass". But, I understood and respected their rights and avoided them and their properties. Just saying....it's not as simple as it sounds to control where and when a dog chooses to go.

My dogs do not go for walks until they have done their business in our fenced yard. We are planning to move to TV in July. We are purchasing a Hacienda in Mission Hills so we can continue being good neighbors. They will not leave the courtyard until they are "done". I own a business where people come with their dogs for a week in VT and I order 30,000 poop bags per year!

That is amazing inconsiderateness and stupidity. The gall of some people. You showed a lot more constraint than I would have. I would have run him off as soon as he bought those dogs in my yard. I tip my hat to you.

This thread shows how far we have gotten away from what used to be common knowledge about having a dog. Sixty five years ago when I was mowing lawns, for my neighbors, I just pushed the s__t away and continued on, as did most people.

I realize we did not have the population density in suburban Pittsburgh, that we have in TV.

If you have them on a leash, as required, you can control them, unless you let them go as far as they want on a retractable leash. I had a dog, he has recently passed away, and he never used someone else's yard because I wouldn't let him get in their yards.
