Default Plugging a New Lawn

Does plugging a 6 month Zoysia yard and over seeding help here in Florida Sand?

I know they just lay Sod down on the sand and it's good luck from there on?

I like a previous quote "Trying to grow grass down here is like trying to grow it on a Sand Dune."

Now have four years experience with lawn.

No problem on sand but grass here needs water and fertilizer and protection against critters that eat it, bugs and stuff.

If you water and fertilize enough, grass will withstand disease and bugs pretty well.

Our yard is looking great with all this rain and the recent fertilizing.

Have not had it areated (sp?) here.

We just had to replace part of our front lawn with new sod because we had mold problems last summer. They came and took out the old sod and layed down new sod. We watered it twice daily for a month. Our entire lawn is now lush and green and you cannot tell where the new sod from the old sod. We tried plugs in the area where the sod needed replaced before we decided to sod. The plugs took ok, but they did not spread quickly. We gave up on them.

Sod is the best way to go. Plugs take longer to cover the area and give weeds a chance to get started. Seeding is the least desireable. Sod costs more.

OK Guys Got you all off tract.

I talking about the walk behind machine that pull a soil plug and deposits them on the lawn. It then bi degrades back into the ground and lets in oxygen for the root system. Often a over seed after plugging will drop into the plug holes and start new growth.

Gracie when Ruth and I visited on one occasion I observed you neighbor, a lawn across and down the street from you getting it done/

Thanks Herv

What you are referring to is lawn aeration. Most lawn services, Massy, etc. do this once a year. I would not think it would be necessary in a sodded lawn 6 months old (just an opinion....not an expert). On the other hand it probably would not hurt either.
You can go here to learn more. Lawn Aeration

OK Thanks for the education!. I heard that the sod gets packed down and the roots need air.

Aeration is the process the dirt plugs are what comes up. I got it
