We had dinner at Pauls Chophouse in Leesburg last night. Sort of pricey, but food was pretty good. Still think Vic Embers is better, with a better atmosphere also, and a much bigger choice in a menu. Menu was small, with not many choices. Had 3 specials, but I opted for the Veal Chop (40 bucks). Meal comes with either soup or ceaser salad, otherwise pay extra for garden salad etc. Apparently the building they are in, was a bar or restaurant before. Booths are close fit, with little room. Waitress was very cordial and pleasant. They open at 5 every evening. My honey had filet, (8oz) with baked potatoe (2 dollars extra) and blanched spinach. Again the food was pretty good, but needs better atmosphere. Maybe they are just starting out there to see how it goes. Final bill for two was 124.00 plus tip, for total of 150.00. I think you get more for the value at Vic Embers. Maybe someone out there has suggestions of good restaurants, outside The Villages?

I agree, Vic Embers is a better value with better selections. Outside the bubble, we also like Goblin Market in Mt Dora and Cotillion Cafe in Wildwood. Berns Steak House in Tampa is really good if your down that direction. There is a place in Tarvares that I have heard good things about but have not tried. I think it's called Al's Top Shelf.

Anyone else tried that one that can comment?

Gosh, for $150, I will cook for you both, forget Paul's Or Vic, I will even pick you up in my Village Limo (golf cart) frankly no meal is worth $150...but even so...my bet would have been Nancy's Lopez...never a disappointment

Sorry to disagree, but I have eaten in some remarkable restaurants and spent more than that for two people. To eat in a place where every bite is perfection and is perfectly complimented by wine, ambience and service is well worth it. A while back I asked on this forum if anyone had eaten in one of Thomas Keller's restaurants, either "The French Laundry" or "Per Se". If you ever run into someone who has eaten in one of those restaurants, ask them what they spent and if they thought it was worth it. Now, all that being said, what time are you picking me up and what's for dinner????

I agree Barry, but Pauls Chophouse was not the place for ambience etc. This had more of a "Pub" type atmosphere. Are Thomas Keller's restaurants that you mentioned, in Florida?

The French Laundry is in Napa Valley (AWESOME !) and Per Se is in New York.

We have been to Jeffrey Pauls maybe six times and I can not recall spending over $100 at any time. They advertise usually once a week in The Daily Sun with a $20 off coupon. While it is not on the same scale as Mark's Prime in Ocala or Berns in Tampa it is still a decent restaurant.

New York City is loaded with terrific restaurants and so is Chicago.Each time i visit my daughter in NYC, we try a different restaurant.She loves to experience the 5 star restaurants on her father's tab.

had a nice dinner at jeffrey pauls's; spend 100.00 (included tip): included a shared dessert, coffee, a glass of wine and a beer. excellent food, prepared and served well. the ambience could have used some sprucing up; kind of dark/dismal. did use 20.00 off coupon.
would i do it again? not for awhile, a bit pricier than i would prefer.
