Better watch out... After I came out of our house this morning, I noticed a sheriff was across the street interviewing one of our neighbors. Seems somebody drained half a tank of gas from his car as it was parked in the driveway. This was the 2nd time this month our neighborhood in the Village of Santiago had their car drained. Many of us bought a locking gas cap after the 1st time but the thief this time not only stole the gas, he damaged the car when he cracked open and pryed off the cap.

From the March 2010 "The Village Voice" The Villages Designed for Safety The Villages is noted for its manicured, wide divided roads, and oversized parking places. The golf cart friendly community with many off-road multimodal trails and tunnel system minimize auto and cart crossings. Curbed, lined, reflected, well lighted and maintain streets are the norm in The Villages. The attractive roundabouts that Villagers love to hate are also designed to keep traffic moving and minimize the incidents of serious accidents. The residential areas from cottages to village neighborhoods range from open to manned gates at the entrance. Most of the entrances have cameras monitoring the visitors for additional security. The downtowns and commercial areas are equally well designed for safe entrance/exit, parking and walking. |

Curious. . . About a week ago and about 36 hours after having returned from Orlando, the wife came home and said the check engine light started glowing when she started up the car after a Zumba session at La Hacienda and some of the auto on/off features (radio/locks/etc) weren't working properly. I was able to get all the auto on/off features working but the check engine light kept coming on steady. Later the next day I remembered that a loose gas cap will often cause the check engine light to illuminate. I stopped the car, removed and reinstalled the cap. Turned off the car and restarted it and sure enough no more engine light. We hadn't gotten gas since two days before our trip to Orlando so we should not have removed the gas cap in a sequence to cause the light to illuminate after our return from Orlando. I wonder now if maybe someone had helped themselves to a bit of gas (tried to anyway) and didn't put the gas cap back on properly. Maybe the possible gas thief doesn't know that many cars (mine included) have an anti-siphoning device included in the filler tube.
