Default How often do you eat outside the Villages

I love all the choices we have here within or close by. What I am curious about is how often do folks venture beyond the "bubble", and how far do you travel.

I think most folks have a number of venues that they love that are outside the bubble. For us, we don't venture that far outside, but we do often make the very short trip to Stavros for some great "red sauce" Italian food or to Oakwood for the best BBQ in the area. Also, because the movie theaters in the squares are not contracted to show Lionsgate movies, we sometimes take a trip to the mall in Leesburg for a movie we want to see.

Mexican food is pretty marginal in the bubble so occasionally we will make a short trip to San Juan in Leesburg on 27 just for lunch. We also used to like Oakwood but were disappointed with the ribs last month. Other than that, we eat outside the compound only in conjunction with shopping or some other activity.

If you consider outside the Villages any place I cannot get to in a cart I would say I average at least once a month.

To me Longhorn is outside TV because I cannot cross Rolling Acres road in my cart. But Outback is in TV because it is reachabe by cart.

Weeat outside the bubble abut twice a week. We get tired of the chains. We love to go eat BBQ at the best in the area - Texas Stockyards! and wings at Ramshackles, and up to Ocala for Marks' US Prime, and Impanema.

Not leaving the confines means that you will miss out on the cool & funky gastronomical delights available:

Old Crow BBQ - Umatilla (excellent BBQ, puts the chain stuff to shame NOTE: only open Wed-Sat)
Damn Smoker - Eustis (excellent BBQ, puts the chain stuff to shame)
Sugarboos BBQ - Mt. Dora (excellent BBQ, puts the chain stuff to shame)
Blackwater Inn - Astor (great food and OUTSTANDING scenery! best outdoor dining in the area!!!)
Essex 2 - Pierson (but just a couple of miles east of Blackwater Inn, sister resturant to Essex Seafood in Essex MA ..... great NE style seafood)
Stumpknockers - Dunnellon (while addie is Dunnellon, it is on SR 200 at the Withlacoochee River .... go for the fried catfish and sit outside in nice weather )
Gator Joes - Ocklawaha (eat out on the dock in the lake, food is run of the mill "bar food" and is ok .... the setting is outstanding!!)
Dam Diner - Ocklawaha (in the Moss Bluff area actually, only open for b/fast & lunch ... one of the best b/fast around!!)
Red's Restaurant - Hernando (but very close to Stumpknockers, another great b/fast spot. WARNING, can be crazy crowded on the weekends!!)

I will think of and post other later.
