So obama wants to have a different tax rate for folks earning over 250000. Now that doesnt make any sense, I dont make over 250000 but why always trying to seperate the people. I'll tell you why safety in numbers keep them divide and they are easier to defeat. Say what you will. Every thing he does is like that.

This man has been preaching class "warfare" for three years now.

Even his own party thinks the number should be one million but that is not good for Obama POLITICALLY !

You could raise those over 250k to 100% and would not help. All have to pay a little including the 47% who pay nothing.
30 years ago over 80% payed something today just over 50% Needs to be fixed

It was republicans who passed the laws allowing only 47% to pay no income tax with their child tax credit.

I think you will find the almost 50% who do not pay taxes have been that way for many many many years. I doubt seriously anybody can find any credible source laying the blame at any one parties feet.

HOWEVER, what is the commentary about why democratic POTUS with a democratic controlled congress (that would be both the senate and the house) never did anything about it?

Most recently Obama's first two years in office with a democratic house and senate. Why no changes in this totally unfair method of taxation?

Because they ALL prefer re-election not fixing anything.

"What is going on with that other 47 percent? Why are so few people paying income taxes? For the answer to that question, we turn to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, which released a study on the subject this July. (The TPC also put out the initial report with the 53 percent number.)

The short answer is: deductions and poverty. About half of households within that 47 percent do not end up paying federal income tax because they qualify for enough breaks to cancel their tax obligations out. Of that group, 44 percent are claiming tax benefits for the elderly, like an exemption for Social Security payments. And 30.4 percent are claiming credits for “children and the working poor,” like the child-care tax credit. The remainder get breaks for investment income, spending on education, itemized deductions, and a mish-mash of other things. When combined, it’s all enough to cancel out their income tax requirements."

53 Percenters: Conservative campaign against Americans who don’t pay federal income taxes. - Slate Magazine

The TAX POLICY CENTER did a very definitive study on this and actually delved into the specifics on why ....

"What about the rest of the untaxed households, the 23 percent of households who don’t pay income tax because of particular tax breaks? We divided tax expenditures (special provisions in the tax code that benefit particular taxpayers or activities) into eight categories and asked which ones made the most people nontaxable. The conclusion: Three-fourths of those households pay no income tax because of provisions that benefit senior citizens and low-income working families with children. Those provisions include the exclusion of some Social Security benefits from taxable income, the tax credit and extra standard deduction for the elderly, and the child, earned income, and childcare tax credits that primarily help low-income workers with children (see graph). Extending the example offered above, the couple could earn an additional $19,375 without paying income tax because their pre-credit tax liability of $2,056 would be wiped out by a $2,000 child tax credit and $57 of EITC.

So what do you say about a comment like this..

"It was republicans who passed the laws allowing only 47% to pay no income tax with their child tax credit. "

Political rhetoric with no basis in fact ?

Those dirty Republicans...NOW, if we could only get Reid to allow discussion on how the illegal immigrants are using this to scam the US treasury !
