The real numbers are Junior Bush signed 291 Executive Orders and President Obama has signed 131.
The Tea Party just does not tell the truth. |

Hulababy was incorrect; eweissenbach and buggyone cited correct numbers. However, was Hulababy "distorting the truth" or was he speaking for the Tea Party and "just not telling the truth"? I'll surmise (correct me if I'm wrong Hulababy...sorry) that Hulababy received the numbers he quoted via an email from a like-minded individual. Do you really think he would quote incorrect numbers when numbers are so easy to verify? We've probably all done similar things by forwarding emails with "facts" that support our political opinions WITHOUT checking the correctness of the facts. But, why get so wrapped around the axle for a discussion about the number of EOs issued by a President? It seems as if there is an implied premise here that EOs are evidence of Presidents abusing executive orders by using them to make laws without Congressional approval or of moving existing laws away from their original mandates. If so, there needs to be some qualitative analysis to accompany the raw numbers presented and corrected here. Without a deeper understanding, this 'give-and-take' is about nothing of significance. EOs can simply be revoked by the next (or later) President, so they live or die by the whim of the President's successors. With some noteable exceptions, EOs don't leave an enduring legacy; neither do the NUMBER of EOs issued by a President indicate anything important. |
