Balloon Juice » Blog Archive » How Mitt “saved” the Olympics…
"When the dust settled, Mitt’s lobbying effort brought over $1.5 Billion to the SLC Games. In 2000 the GAO did an audit of US taxpayer support for Olympic Games in the country. Taxpayers spent $74,654,000 for the LA Games in 1984; and $608,512,000 for the 1996 in Atlanta. These were both summer Olympics and so you would expect them to cost more. But, the 2002 Winter Games in SLC blew the doors off the Treasury—taxpayers paid $1.5 Billion to bail out Mitt." from the above balloon-juice.com July 18, 2012 article. |

Mitt Romney is running out of things he can't or won't talk about. He won't talk about his accomplishments as governor of MA, like state mandated health care for all and abolishing automatic weapons and presiding over the first state in the country to allow same sex marriages.
Romney stopped talking about his days at Bain Capital after the revelations of out sourcing jobs to China, Mexico, etc. He can't talk about his off shore investments in the Grand Caymans, Bermuda and Switzerland, because that gets people asking to see his tax returns. Romney doesn't like to talk about his Mormon faith. And now with all these recent gaffes, he probably won't want to talk about his Olympic experiences. |

A clue for the clueless: Mitt Romney will use taxpayer money to run the country. He will do a better job with our money than the present occupant of the White House. I presume based on your original posts that you think that Mitt Romney should pay for all of the expenses of the United States of America out of his own pocket," or to live up to your expectations of a president. After all, Obama is believed to be running the country out of his own stash.
It's too bad that we cannot get two intelligent paragraphs out of progressives these days. Save the country vote for Romney. |

we the people have endured the gaffs, the un kept promises, the lies, the day after explanations of what he meant when he said what ever yesterday, etc, etc, etc.....for almost 4 years.
We certainly can handle the minutia being served up as distractions regarding Romney. When doe the democratic party or any of it's loyal supporters get to talk real issues of concern to America? to we the people? Waiting 4 years so far!! btk |

The taxpayer was saved from paying for more costs of devastation to our nation, by our nation's tax-funded efforts to avoid a 2nd round of 9-11 attacks on our soil, at the 2002 Olympics.
How conveniently many armchair "experts" leave out the cost of preventing another 9-11 terrorist attack on the Olympics, within the year of this: • The total cost of the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center—comprising earnings losses, property damage, and the cleanup and restoration of the site—is estimated to be between $33 billion and $36 billion through June 2002. • The earnings losses consist of $7.8 billion in deceased workers’ prospective lifetime earnings and $3.6 billion to $6.4 billion in reduced wage and salary income in city industries affected by the attack. • The cost of cleaning up the site, replacing the destroyed World Trade Center buildings, and repairing damaged buildings and infrastructure is expected to reach $21.6 billion." And this addresses only the costs in NYC. Measuring the Effects of the September 11 Attack on New York City http://www.nyfedeconomists.org/resea...2/0211rapa.pdf |

2002 Olympics a target of Al Qaeda? Security & worry have been ever increased since the Munich Olympics. So far, according to the news, British troops have been called in twice for security reasons at the London Olympics. Olympic security is a real concern. A few well placed suicide bombers could really cause problems.

Same with the Salt Lake City Olympics. It would have been the US government handling much of the work at preventing any violence at the Winter 2002 Olympics. Not Mitt Romney. |
