Default My Top 3 Olympic Moments from Today

I've had enough of this silliness, calling Phelps a loser bc he failed to medal in a race for the first time since 2004. As if!

I'm focusing on trying to identify my top 3 competitive moments of the day.

1. Men's Team Archery Finals: what a match! USA not expected to win a medal beats #1 So Korea to face Italy- a medal favorite- in the finals. USA falls behind by 4 pts going into final round but rallies to put Italy in a position that it needs 9 pts on final shot just to tie. The Italian archer overcomes the pressure to nail a 10 pt bullseye to win Gold.

2. Lochte 400 IM victory. He crushed the competition. He has trained so hard and so well that it is difficult for him to keep his confidence under control so that he doesn't come off as being cocky. He said that this is his time and that he is ready to rock. I sense that he will have a huge Olympics.

3. USA Women's Soccer Group Play match against Colombia, specifically the incredibly bad behavior of the Colombian player named Lady (thats really her real first name, honest). She and Abby Wambach were running side-side nowhere near the ball when Lady suddenly wheeled around and slugged Wambach in the eye. The refs missed the punch, so Lady got away wi the most blatant unsportsmanlike act. The rules do permit the refs to review a tape of the game, and to retroactively assess penalties- including giving a red card- against players. Lady should be tossed from her next match for sure, and bc her actions are so contrary to the oath that the athletes take, from all matches.

It's tough to reduce the day's activities to only the Top 3 moments, especially since the moment could be anything, great or awful.

What are yours?

I liked the volleyball games between the US and South Korea. The South Koreans made a truly valiant effort in their one win against the US even though they were badly outmatched in weight, height, and muscles of the Americans.

I was impressed how easily Ryan Lochte won that race. He must have trained extremely hard to be in such great shape.

Go USA.
