Default Murphy bed (guest bedroom)

Since a guest bedroom is used only a small %age of the time (repeat...usually) would it make sense to have a Murphy bed in that room (to free up that space for general usage)?

Having never used a Murphy bed, I don't know the sleeping comfort. Don't know the space requirement or cost.

Comments?

Cost: Usually pricey.

Comfort: Good, depending on the mattress you purchase.

Takes up little space, so that's a good thing. Is a permanent installation, so no redecorating and can be a detriment if you try to sell your home.

Murphy beds are great. It's like having a extra room. The beds have full sized mattresses and are very comfortable. Many murphy beds are sold right here on TOTV- Classified section.
Check out this link for Wall Beds Plus in the Villages. Many styles to choose from.

We just came to that conclusion ourselves...we are selling are queen size bed in the guest room and we purchased a daybed with a popup trundle. Murphys are very pricey..You can see a wide range of daybeds on Amazon.com. A very wide price range. Some come with mattresses, most do not. But the cost difference is huge between a day bed and a murphy bed,

We recently sold a home that had a Murphy bed-- was not a problem.

We also just recently sold a Murphy bed, right here on TOTV. The installer from Wall Beds Plus just unbolted it from the wall and floor. When they install, they put a small slice in the carpet, which is left under the bed. After they un-installed it, the carpet just fell back into place-- can't even tell there was a Murphy bed there.

This is , of course, just my personal experience.

My husband made a Murphy bed after purchasing the bed mechanism online. We got a mid-priced Queen mattress, and our guests said it was very comfortable. When we don't have guests, we use the room as a craft room/office.

Our grandson is sleeping like a log this week on two blow up mattresses stacked on top of each other.

Another easy solution.

We have a sofa bed, and we put a blow up mattress on top so the houseguest can't feel the bar. The other nice thing about a sofa bed is that you can actually sleep on just the sofa if you need to sleep somewhere else at 3AM (without moving furniture, blowing up a mattress, unfolding a bed) because someone else is snoring to beat the band.

Have a murphy bed with a queen size mattress, couldn't be more comfortable. We didn't pay that much, went offsite to a place in Clermont and it was a little over $1,000 cheaper. Looks great too.
