I saw this story today on CNN - Carnival cruise lines is trying out a new approach to make sure people don't reserve deck chairs for more than 40 minutes. I'm not stating a position on it, just sharing it. We are not alone in thinking about approaches to deal with this type of thing.

Good for Carnival!! This practice also happens at resorts as well (saving chairs at pool-side). I've even seen this done at church when there's a meal being served (buffet style). A friend or two comes early and puts items at the table to make it "seem" like it's already taken. Or again at church, for a particular program---will place Bibles or programs on the seats to "save" for late-coming friends and family. What ever happened to the "first come, first served" idea????
I'm not sure how T.V. could institute a "policing" rule if folks are tying chairs together with rope etc.?? |

When I read about the deck chair police putting timed markers on the saved chairs, it reminds me of parking meters. Hmmmm.....here's an idea. Each TV chair in the squares could have a "chair meter", and if people want to keep putting in their quarters, they can save the seat. If the meter expires, it's up for grabs. Like the special toll lanes on roads. Not really serious, but trying to get creative.

It sounds like an idea for chairs to be policed as "one fanny in seat is reserved.

If a "saved" chair is not occupied at 5pm, then anyone should be allowed to take it.

Last year we went on a Regent of the Seas cruise. They had posted notices all around the pool area with pretty much the same wording as Carnivals. The crew, and guests all studiously ignored the signs, did not remove items from chairs, and guests continued to "save" their lounge chairs....

You know its funny with the mentioning of a cruise. channel 13 news just had a story about I think it was carnival cruise was now picking up items in chairs after 40 minutes of them being unoccupied and sending them to lost and found to keep people from saving chairs for hours.

I thought being in TV was like being on a cruise ship.

i would think that by now a chair policy would emerge such as someone in charge of distributing chairs. Only one to a customer. No tickee no shirtee.

We have also experienced the frustration of walking the decks looking for available chairs on our various cruises. It's a shame that people are that rude that they feel they are entitled to save chairs for hours on end. It gets my blood boiling when I see this behavior. I could go on and on about this rude behavior but I have to get to Lake Sumter and mark my chairs for tomorrow nights Rocky and the Rollers visit
