![]() Some statistics on the gun issue> The 2010 annual survey of the National Association of Chiefs of Police (20,000+ members) found that 95% of them believe a law abiding citizen ought to be able to buy a gun for sport or self protection. Seventy five percent of them believe that concealed handgun permits issued in one state ought to be honored in other states in the same manner that driver licenses are honored.... A 2007 survey of police officer published in Police Magazine found that 88% disagreed that tighter gun control would enhance public safety. In the same survey 67% opposed tighter controls because the law would only be obeyed by law abiding citizens. A 1997 survey conducted by San Diego Police Officer Association found that 82% of its officers opposed an assault weapons ban, 82% opposed a limitation on magazine capacity and 85% supported letting law abiding citizens carry concealed handguns. AR15's and AK47 are indeed assault style weapons but the operative word is "style'. since the weapons look similar but operate differently Ban on armor piercing bullets. First no one can get them legally for handguns except police. Secondly the claim to ban them because they can penetrate bullet resistent vests may be true but rifles with standard ammunition can too. There are incidents on reord where law abiding citizens carrying weapons contained and/ or reduced the turmoil caused by a gunman. There has never been a recorded case where a law abiding citizen carrying a handgun accidentally shot a bystander. "What Mayor Bloomberg Doesn't Know About Police and Guns WSJ August 2, 2012 |

Rubicon, my friend, I have said many times if citizens have a permit to carry a concealed weapon that I have no problem with that. I just think it is foolish to think you need a concealed weapon while in The Villages - but I have no problem if someone feels the need.
