Why are there always people who ruin a good thing by taking advantage??
I'm talking about people who check out FREE books/novels from the Village Library and never return them!! I admire the residents who can afford to purchase these books and then donate them, as many of us can't afford frequent purchasing of reading material and the donations are a blessing. Now to those who take advantage and then selfishly fail to return the books! Turn the books back in!!! I recently requested from one of the friendly volunteers if they had a book entitle An Irish Country Christmas by Patrick Taylor. She checked her records and informed me she had three of this novel on file. However, all three were checked out for an inordinate amount of time. One has been checked out since November 2011!!! I will now end this rant by again thanking all those who donate their novels, you bring a lot of pleasure to many, some of whom are confined!! |

I'm a sub at the Mark Twain Library (aka Paradise) and it is a common problem. Frequently, it is not taking the books and deliberately returning them, it is that the patron died and the family never returned them. Sad state of affairs, but not much we can do about it. Another culprit are snowbirds who check out the books and forget to return them before they go back home or just take them to read on the drive. Many do in fact return the checked out books (with several new ones thrown as donations) when they return but it can be disheartening if it happens to be a book someone else wants to read.
All of that being said, I do want to thank you for using Mark Twain Library and, on behalf of all of the volunteers there, thank you for the kind words. We really do love our library. Remember, donated books, DVDs, videos and audio books are always appreciated.
