I'm presently in NH and I was just talking over the phone to my neighbor in the Villages and he told me that a large planter and plant that I had left in my carport for watering and care, had been recently stolen. It's discouraging to realize that someone would steal private property in the Villages.

Why would you be discouraged. Thefts permeate all geographical areas and socio-economic classes?

I too am from NH and I was taken for $700.00 by a scam artist in the villages. I tried to get the sheriff dept. to do something and all I get is "sorry that you are the victem of grand theft but your case now is inactive". Call if you have questions which I did and they seem to be always busy or on the phone. Don't wait for a return call as it will never come.
Good luck. Nhgolfer. |

I have two flower pots at the end of my driveway. One trash day recently I ended up with one. Guess he thought it didn't look too good. There's a house 3 streets over that has had two ceramic planters at the end of the driveway & I noticed that there is only one now. Go figure! |

I have a friend that grows plumeria in South Florida. She grows many rare cultivars and sells cuttings on the internet. She went out to dinner one night and when she got up the next day she noticed someone had pried open the gate to her back yard and growing grounds and cut off every one of her plants at ground level. Plumeria will root from cuttings, so the thief just had to either root them or sell the cuttings. She used to have some in pots in the front yard but got tired of replacing them as they were stolen. Apparently, there is a thriving black market in plants.

As I talk to some of the employes, workers, community watch, others, they pretty much say there are things taken but most times from construction sites more than personal homes. It is easy to do since one can only drive around and SEE the items left at sites overnight such as cabinets in an open garage, drywall mud, lumber, drywall, etc. But, I am just aghast at the boldness some people have in broad daylight that take things from sites. I watched a guy today go up to a pile of dirt on a site and load up his cart with numerous buckets. Apparently he thinks it is ok to use since it is only dirt an what's a little bit going to be missed. I got his description though and cart. However, we have seen other materials just taken too. Each time we talk to CW but they say it is hard to catch them. I guess again they think that they won't miss a bucket of mud, some 2 x 4s, etc so what's the big deal! Sheesh! Just venting

I would suspect landscapers. Who else could easily sell that type of material? We have actually had palm trees dug up and stolen in Hawaii. The prices for these large plants can be very high. Most neighbors would not suspect anything if a landscape truck was at your home (with a phony sign on the door).

I'm very relieved to hear there aren't any scam artists or thieves in New
Hampshire.

It takes all kinds. Some folks just steal and hoard it. Doesn't have be anything of much value. They can't help themselves and they are where you would least suspect it.

![]() That said I too would suspect a landscaping company as they have the whereabouts to move it. |

Being in TV for over 8 years now, I can tell you that it's like any town. We've had break-ins, thefts (including Christmas displays), domestic violence, suicides, and even at least one murder, possibly two. One woman shot her husband, and I honestly don't remember if he died or not - if he did, that would've been the second murder that I'm aware of.
Regardless, I absolutely love living here and, in my opinion, it's still the best place possible to live. |
