Default Street Legal cart?

Today I saw a Gem cart driving on Stillwater Trail with a street legal sign on the back (not the black and yellow signs we see here) but it had a Montana license plate. Is it legal to drive in Florida on the roads with an out of state license plate? I assume it was street legal in Montana.

Yes, you can drive a cart with other states plates just as long as you register that plate in the state you bought it. Now here is the kicker, you can't legally drive the cart in Florida if you are a register home owner in Florida. You have to be a snow bird, and trailer it when you come down.

Mrdills, can you provide a link to the Florida Statute(s) that states this. Also, why wouldn't that statute apply to regular vehicles too and requre that they all have Florida plates.

I know it's kind of a grey area when you own two homes.
