I heard there is a time share club in The Villages. Does anyone know if this is so? I have a time share I have not used in years, and want to give it away. The only requirement is that the person who wants it transfer the ownership. I thought if there is such a club, I could let this group know. APpreciate any information.

Please give more info about your timeshare. Name of timeshare. Fixed or floating week ?Deeded or not. Maintainence fee and taxes per year. Week number etc. You may be able to get someone on TOTV that is interested. There is a Villages timeshare group. I attended a few meetings when I first moved down but everyone was trying to SELL, nobody was interested in buying. That may have changed.

Any possibility of giving it to a charity? Seems like this would make a great raffle prize.

I don't think charities will take them either. Most time shares are not able to be given away free.

Here's a link to about a dozen charities that MAY accept timeshares. If the timeshare is worth something, they will take it for free. If not, they will charge a fee to take it off your hands (up to $1,000) Remember the yearly taxes and maintainence can run much more than that, so you are basically paying this years fees and then getting rid of it.
This link is from the Timeshare Users Group. You can also join TUG for $15 and advertise free for a year on their website.....lots of people interested in picking up an extra week. Good luck. Charities That Accept Timeshare Donations | Timeshare Trap edit post....found out you don't have to join TUG to place a FREE ad on their website. Just go to the Bargain Deals section and post the ad. I have been trying to get rid of my timesharing for years and have been ripped off by several companies that say they will sell it for you. I have also tried to donate it but have been told the fee for this has been way higher than $1000. Found a company called Give Back Timeshares listed with BBB that will take it for $2500 but thats only for certain timeshares....others are much higher fees. My timeshare is deeded so my kids will inherit this nightmare when I die if I don't get rid of it. When I called the timeshare resort and said I can't afford it any more and will not be paying it, they nicely told me they will ruin my credit and then put a lein on my house! I've owned this week for over 35 years....wonderful when my kids were little but now a nightmare! My maintenance is $980 a year!! And where is my home resort? Kissimmee Florida!!! Never thought I'd actually live near it!! Good Luck!!

My daughter's school in California had annual silent auctions. There was always a timeshare as one of the prizes and it always went for at least a couple of grand. (No, this wasn't for one or two weeks' use, but the actual timeshare itself.)

$980x52=$51,940 maintenance fee per year...how can it cost that much to maintain one condo? I realize that includes grounds as well but just sure seems steep. And the timeshare owner can't get out.... Not making a statement, just talking out loud. |

Hoseman....now you see how crazy this is. The resort I own is Sheraton Vistana, it's right near Disney Village (downtown) ... It has grown from a small duplex resort 35 years ago to a giant sprawling place with 5 restaurants, 7 pools, a general store, etc. Maintenance started at $114 and now is $980 a year for one week! If you trade it (you have to be a member of RCI for about $100 a year) for another place or even another week at your resort, it's about $200 and if you give it to your kids you have to have guest pass which is another $89! What a rip off!
