Another "estimate".
Only another week until we know the real number.

I think the percent increase should be tied to the rate increase percentages on Medicare part D premiums + supplemental insurance rate increases.

Or an acceptable alternative would be to make the increase match the percent increase of the price of gasoline.

I think there should be a rolling 5 year average and if at any point in time one loses ground to price increases we should get a subsidy from the federal government to stay even.....

Or..........

Hey -

Enjoy this COLA...there are serious plans, certainly embrassed by one, if not both parties, to change how the CPI is used/calculated for "entitlement" increases. Again, I'm not trying to use code...it's quite possible this is a chip both parties are willing to spend. Frankly, I have a hard time when politicians from any party call a benefit you paid for an "entitlement" -- but, I need to be careful here as I do not want to be "political." Still, regardless of your political affiliation. it's important to assist your elected representative with their vocabulary..Social Security and Federal Pensions are not an entitlement...they are a benefit you paid for. An "entitlement" is the gym in the Capitol. An "entitlement" is their reserved parking space at Reagan Airport. Get my drift?

That is why they changed the definition to PAYROLL TAX from FICA...FEDERAL INSURANCE CONTRIBUTION ACT. Any time the government changes the name of something ...it is for a reason.

Well, I guess I see entitlement differently. I paid the tax into the fund; therefore I am entitled to get what I paid for.. :-). Think about it.

The difference is rhetoric...the bottom line is that I've been paying for it - it's not a gift or something I need to feel bad about taking. I bought it. If you charged too little....figure out a way to correct your pricing...but, 'taint my problem. I paid what you asked - now pony up what you promised. If you expect me to feel guilty or a leech on society..feel this...my foot up your tush. I don't apologize for stuff I bought and paid for. You don't have to be conservative to like tea - Madame DeFarge liked it, too.

This is not a left or right thing....this is about honoring promises and not humiliating those who took you at your word.
