I have a 2009 yamaha gas golf cart. Sometimes after running it for a long stretch and come to a complete stop, the cart backfires. The dealer says I need a rebuilt carburetor ( not covered under warranty), but I think it may need adjustment. It did this when it was new and the dealer adjusted the carburetor and it ran fine. Anyone out there have any thoughts or know someone who can adjust my carburetor?

Probably running a little too rich and a carb adjustment should be the first thing to look at. You may be able to google the question and get a schematic of the carb. from yamaha and locate the adjustment screw and/or suggested DIY tips. I would suggest small quarter turns to adjust the mixture.

Sometimes a cart will backfire if the engine govenor is set a little high to produce more cart speed which causes the engine to run hot.

A mechanic took my idle screw out completely. Mine stopped backfiring.
