Default Golfing solo

I'm going down to visit my mother and was wondering how hard it is for a single to golf or to get hooked up with a threesome to get some golf in. I'm a beginner but figured I could get some good practice down there.

Fairly easy on the championship courses. Less so on the execs because there are a lot of couples paired up. Best thing to do is pick out courses close that you want to play and call the pro shop or the starter shacks. Many execs have one starter shack for several courses so you can cover more possible openings with one call.

Of course in the peak season getting on will always be tougher. If you play off campus golf courses, your chances are better with their twice a day shotgun starts. Check the newspaper for listings and phone numbers.

Most championship courses won't let you play single, they will automatically team you up...Problem solved !

We have a friend who plays a lot of executive golf by himself. Sometimes he plays one course in the morning and one in the afternoon. You just sign up by phone or internet and they tell you where to be and who are the other three people in your foursome..

I have always been able to play. They would just pair me up with others. At times I have had to play late or early but that is just part of the season.

Pat,

Let me know if you want to get together for a round some time on an exec. course. I often go out as a single. I live in Poinciana and will be here until Nov. 14. Then I will return to TV on Jan. 3rd for a longer stay. If interested, you can e-mail me at gooeyg@optonline.net.

Default Easy to play as single

on the executive courses also. I used to do it a lot when we just came down for a couple of weeks at a time. If you sign up ahead, you are usually set up with a couple (or just 2 friends) and another single. Have met lots of nice people this way, only 1 or 2 unpleasant experiences, and those weren't really unpleasant, just not as much fun.

You can either sign up ahead of time or call the courses the same day, but also keep in mind that there are often lots of no-shows. A good place to try just showing up are the 3 courses at 1 starter shack just behind Pimlico Rec Center. Odds improve.

Also usually easiest to get on in the afternoon, maybe 3:00.

Also, don't forget about signing up for Ladies' Day on Wednesday. Check out golfthevillages.com. You are always paired randomly - no one can sign up together.
