I'm happy to see that Southern Baptist Disaster Relief (SBDR) volunteers were quick to respond to the needs of the victims of Hurricane Sandy. They are on site throughout the devastated area. Working side by side with the Salvation Army and the Red Cross, SBDR Volunteers are the backbone of food preparation for both disaster relief volunteers and disaster victims. They presently are preparing 450,000 hot meals daily in the disaster areas. In addition to hot meals Southern Baptist volunteers bring mobile units for hot showers, clean laundry and other services. SBDR assets include 82,000 trained volunteers, including chaplains, and some 1,550 mobile units for feeding, chainsaw, mud-out, command, communication, childcare, shower, laundry, water purification, repair/rebuild and power generation. SBDR is one of the three largest mobilizers of trained disaster relief volunteers in the United States, along with the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army.
