Any folks out there that left WNC to come to TV? Would you share with me your reasons for doing that. Thanks.

Posh - didn't leave Western NC left Wilmingon on the East coast. But that is neither here nor there. Your dilemna is leaving the mountains, so I can speak to this because when we decided it was time to leave NC (a 4 year stop on our bizarre journey through life) we were debating about going back to the mountains in NM or moving to The Villages. Well actually it was me having to make a decision 'cause my husband was convinced we needed to be here. Actually in my mind the deciding factor was a 93 year old mother we recently moved to Oxford and my brother and his family in Longwood (just north of Orlando). I still "pine" for the mountains and we recently went to Pine Mountain Ga for a "fix".That satisfied me for a while, but hoping to rent for the month of August somewhere in the mountains where it will be cooler and I can hike with my dogs off leash. I can say The Villages has exceeded my expectations and that certainly helps, but still in the back of my mind I hope to someday make it back.

Not sure how you could give up Wilson to come to TV. We used to live in Rocky Mount, then went to Winston- Salem, then Charleston, SC and now at TV.

Hope you enjoy, we have been here for 2 weeks.

Default Hi and welcome to TOTV

We loved our home in Morganton, NC and miss all of our great friends and certainly understand your concern BUT you will LOVE LOVE LOVE the Villages...Our friends said, "Are you sure you want to go to Florida with the heat and bizillion bugs?"...BUT I can remember many heat spells in NC, when golf was completely out of the question when temps stayed in the 90's...We have been here in TV for 6 years and have traded good friends in NC for more good friends here...The bugs do exist but can easily be solved with a service...Did you golf in Western NC?...Many many wonderful golf courses there....Unlike our home in NC which was on Mimosa Hills CC, we now have access to EVERYTHING by golf cart....Some days, our car never leaves the garage....Hope this helps, any other questions just pm me...

To villager dude----left wilson, nc because my husband died 3-2012 in rocky mount. I have two sisters here & no kin in wilson so it was a easy choice to move here. Purchased 7-2012 & made final move 10-22-2012. Finally got boxes unpack and ready for my golf lessons.

Can anybody tell me where to go for golf lessons. I have the clubs --just need the lessons if any teacher can teach this 68 year old head strong person anything. Lol

I am so very sorry about the passing of your husband. I was joshing you about Wilson. TV is such a wonderful place. We have had it on our radar for ten years and are fortunate to have moved here to Amelia on November 1st. Still trying to unpack boxes and take advantage of the TV offerings . We are trying to reach a good mix.

I think you have found the perfect place to come with many opportunities to meet and form new friends.

Good luck with your golf lessons.

I live in Virginia and considering retirement in WNC rather than TV. I've been on TOTV for over a year and have visited TV twice. Looking for any info about WNC. Thanks for your response.

Actually, I’m using the Smoky Mountains of Western NC as a summer retreat from the heat and humidity of Florida’s summers. Spent my first summer up there this year and now plan to repeat each year.

Generally it’s is considerably cooler and drier up there than the eastern part of NC and it reminds me of summer in New England. And only a nine hour drive from here. And the rental rates are much less than those on the NC coast.

Default HI Posh 08

[Played LOTS of golf in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain area, weather is four moderate seasons, little snow, melts usually after a week, Asheville is a great town, would be my first choice but little Morganton is centrally located, between Asheville and Charlotte if you like having access to the BIG city....NC Golf courses are hub for Donald Ross, he was very busy building golf courses in NC....Hendersonville CC is another of my favorite golf courses BUT where else can you go in a golf cart ANYWHERE but here in the Villages....This is definitely Paradise....I can't ever remember residents so physically active in NC like they are in TV, and so many things to do even if you don't golf....pm me if you have any question, be happy to help...
