Default Update to "Can anyone confirm this?"

I see that the moderator closed the thread, which is fine with me, since the comments were getting out of control.

However, I would like to tell everyone that I did contact the Entertainment Department, and no one there knew anything about the rumor.

A number of people who responded to my question clearly did not read my original post very carefully. Based on their responses they seemed to think I was the one who had heard the rumor in the first place. I thought I was quite explicit in stating that the question was posed to me and I was seeking answers.

I did contact the person who originally sent the question to me, and asked for clarification. She did clarify how and where she heard the information.

A portion of her response is quoted here (NB: This is a quote, these are not my words, if you don't understand quotes, use a dictionary):

"I was in Lucy’s Upscale Resale Shop this morning around 10:30am. A man came in to pick up a check for his wife. He mentioned that he had just come from a meeting at Lake Sumer Landing. He is the one who gave me this info. He also said, The Villages would not be charging the stores 2%/3% of their gross that goes directly to The Villages.

I agree this sounds very strange but then why would this man say such a thing. Like I said, he was in the shop picking up a check for his wife. Apparently, he is an owner or tied to a business in The Villages."

Note that the quote is in a different font and color.

I am not asking for any further feedback on this. It is a mystery as to why someone would come into a Village's retail shop and spout off information like this. All my friend was tying to do was find out if there was any truth to it. All I was trying to do was help. My friend also contacted The Daily Sun, specifically about the yard sales since they run ads for them, and she was told they were not aware of any plan to ban yard sales.

From now on I won't try to find information on this forum since many people seem to prefer ridicule over providing legitimate answers or suggestions.

Forgive me if I am wrong but it seems that you edited your post to make it a little clearer. I seem to remember that there was originally a little confusion as to whether you were saying this or you were quoting someone else.

People on the forum hear a lot of nonsense and rumors and when something is not completely clear and is a bit "scandalous" people go into the " oh no, not again" mode.

I wouldn't dismiss this forum or any of it's participants summarily, but sort of observe for awhile and get the "feel" of posting.

I remember when I first started posting I too was kinda " jumped on" and now that I look back I can kind of see why.

I was questioning whether this place was the real deal and I got the backs up of many who love it here.

Now I am the one who feels all protective.

As others have pointed out, the written word lacks many things to make the writers intentions clear....and it was your first post, so we didn't know you, your history or your "style" of writing. Your second post completely made your point clear but there is a practice here of "scanning" and frequently missing the VERY posts that clarify a point.

That doesn't make it right to have anyone be rude to you, but generally there is a lot of really good natured fun poked on here.

Give us another chance.

And Merry Christmas

Gracie

Hi Gracie,

Just to set the record straight, here is my original post:

I'm new to posting, and this seems to be the best place to ask this question.

A neighbor sent this email this morning. This is a first-person question from a reliable source, and I am trying to find answers for her. This is the first place I thought to look, and since I can't find anything related to this, I'm forwarding her question.

This is her question:

"This morning while shopping, a business man mentioned that he attended a meeting this morning at Lake Sumter. He told me The Villages will no longer have entertainment at the town squares….starting in Jan. He also mentioned that an estate sale would require a $ 50 permit and 2 “security” type people must be present. Yard sales would no longer be allowed.

Does anyone know if this is true or not? Let’s try and find out before the rumors start flying."

Didn't I say, "I'm forwarding her question," and "This is her question:"?

How can that be misinterpreted?

Other than that, thank you for your comments, and Merry Christmas to you too.

Thanks for the positive feedback. We are trying our best and if anyone sees a post that is of concern click the red triangle in the upper right of the post and it will be sent to us for review. You can always also block users in your UserCP that 'rub' anyone the wrong way.

I certainly understand your post and can understand your concern! Having lived here over a year we find that we rarely go to the squares anymore BUT it is a nice, almost free, place to take our visitors. I'm hoping it is a rumor or at least a misunderstanding. A visit to The Villages - Lifestyle, does not list any entertainment past 12/31 at either of the squares but I doubt if that information is available yet with December not half over. Lets hope it's not true!

All of the off topic or personal attack posts have been deleted. We will leave the thread open for now in the hopes that on topic discussion can continue in a civil manner.

Please cease the back and forth personal attacks. Take it offline, or use the "ignore user" feature, or report the post, or take a break.

Uh, unfortunately there has been no sun for the last two days.
Personally I just got back from pickleball and need to rest a bit before heading to fitness center!

As a side thought, it would not be a wise financial decision to stop the entertainment until AFTER the "build out". This helps sell homes. I'd venture to guess that if this should be true there would be many re-sales competing with new construction!

I find it interesting that the "Rocky and the Rollers" web site does not list any dates for appearing at Spanish Springs, Lake Sumter or Brownwood. There are however 11 dates for Katie Belle's and a number of dates for "private events" in various Villages centers.

They are very popular and you know what happens when the supply is less than the demand. Some events will be priced out of Squares budget.

FYI - Scooter the DJ is booked 5 times in January at the squares per his website. I also am having a hard time buying into this rumor due to:
1. as previously stated - the entertainment generates a lot of buisness for the nearby resturants and stores = higher rent prices for the developer. The developer also sells a fair share of booze at those shacks which they also own.
2. the developer just spent a bundle of money building a third town square - poor planning wouldn't you think

And the fact that we are not living up there yet would definitely
be poor planning !!!!

Thumbs up

Rocky and the Rollers were playing Spanish on Wed. night. Even with a light rain, the place was packed.

Also to you people who have never been, Church on the Square has some wonderful concerts. Only 2 dollars and you really get in the Christmas spirit, plus support our local groups.
