Please drive carefully. Next week our population will grow substantially. Do every thing in your power to protect yourself and others while driving on the paths, roads and highways that have many new people unfamilier with our town and many old people who might be distracted by the huge increase in traffic. If you are gonna drink more than a couple have someone else drive you home. I say this to my adult children and grandchildren so I am NOT being mean. You are a wonderful person, you who are reading this post and I want you here in April.

Thank you, gg. I just heard of a driver in a roundabout that came head to head with an elderly golf cart driver. How scary is that. Wrong in so many ways.

Yours "Words of Wisdom" cotinue to Wow me. You're so thoughtful, caring and have excellent foresight. Do you polish your crystal ball every day, or just weekly? Gene ps: Remember, in years past, when some party-hearty guests would have one more drink "for the road" before heading home? Scary! I haven't heard that phrase in a l-o-n-g time...thank goodness. |

People from Mothers Against Drunk Driving around 2000 often gave me the best advice I received while I was fighting for better resources for survivors of violent crimes accessible through and in libraries of all kinds.
If you really want to do more about this issue I would contact M.A.D.D. http://www.madd.org/ and see what they would like to have library users have access to in local public and law libraries. I did this for a very long time but often felt like a voice in the wilderness. I even had one public librarian in Pasco County, Florida tell me that if they got more requests for information about what might help help survivors of crimes like drunken driving they would do something about it. |

I do remember that someone had written me that any real progress in victims/survivors rights is done very slowly by insiders thus the city hall statement. MADD's advice though changed over the years as I contacted them quite often in my very long struggle. It also seems to be a huge organization now with many people having different perspectives. |

It always blows my mind when I hear someone say, "I will be drinking so we are taking the golf cart" Is a golf cart not driven, can't one be under the influence even if he/she is in a golf cart? Doesn't a DUI apply to everything driven? Any lawyers out there?

You can be arrested/convicted of DWI if you are on the roadway. The golf cart paths are private property, hence no enforcement action can be taken. Enforcement or not, DWI is a stupid thing to do. Don't be stupid.
