I saw a Bald Eagle flying above the Amelia Pool on Christmas Day. Has anyone else seen one near there or was I seeing things ?

Thanks

EdV thank you so much for this treat. I was saddened when the Norfolk female eagle was killed and the subsequent decision to destroy the nests since they were too close to the airport.

Bare will be thrilled to hear about this nest; she started the original posting about the Norfolk eagles.

No Village Dude- you were not seeing things. I have seen one flying above Amelia Pool too.

Saw two eaglets today and they look like bobble heads. The dominant eaglet (probably older) has started bonking the head of the smaller eaglet who immediately goes down and hides. It's not easy to watch the dominant eaglet take all the food but it's survival of the fittest. Beautiful fierce female who never rests; she's constantly looking out for intruders and just chased one away. It's addicting.

Spent way too much time this w/e watching Ozzie, Harriett & their two youngins....but they're a pretty fascinating family to watch. Got really lucky around 5pm CST today when they were both up on the side of the nest dining on their latest, delicious kill, and both babies were asleep. The babies eventually woke up though, & both parents began diligently feeding the little ones bits & pieces of the fresh......whatever it was. Both eaglets seem to be doing great.

Thanks EdV for the link. I am thrilled to hear about this nest and the new eaglets! The Norfolk eagle cam was a wonderful addiction, and I was glued to it every January to May. Last year the widowed male mated with four different young eagles and none of them produced an egg! This year it was speculated the male would choose a mate and produce a family. He was a great nest builder. And now they've destroyed the nest. Sigh. But I realize it is for the greater good.

The mother eagle is hot and panting and could use a swim. Where is the dad ... she needs a break from the kids.

Momma eagle is using her wings like an umbrella to shade her babies. The nest is in direct sun so with this unseasonably hot weather they need some shade. The care they give their young is inspiring.

EdV, Thank you for posting this link. So interesting. Between watching the eagle cam and the web cam of Misty's 5 yellow lab pups (they will be service dogs one day), I'm spending way too much time animal watching!

Great link. Right now, you can see the two eaglets very clearly.

I have at least five eagle cams I check every day. Some of the northern ones are still waiting for eggs to be laid, or waiting for eggs to hatch. (Decorah and Hornby Island are two of my favs). And then there are the adorable two Florida bobbleheads. She is such a good mom. Nature is wonderful.
