Default A Villager rips off fellow Villager

What a shame it is when one Villager rips off another elderly Villager to the tune of $50,000... This scammer has done similiar deeds in the past and usually charging hugh sums for landscaping work never done. He went back to this poor gentleman until he had emptied his bank account. Those interested in the full story can find the article in yesterdays Daily Sun. There should be some way to have people like this removed from the Villages community. Right now we have over 25 registered sexual preditors who are villages residents.

Default sexual violaters

I omitted a piece of shocking information. If I run a check of sexual violators within 5 mile of my Villages home the number of violators add to 74.

Since it was already published in the paper, would you mind sharing the name of the landscaper for those that may be researching local landscapers?

I did the search within 5 miles of my address and came up with 20. You must be taking in places like lady lake and fruitland park etc. etc. Still too many, but out of abut 60,000 residents, the number is very low compared to other communities.

I then searched within 5 miles of my old address and came up with 65. My old address is much less densely populated than The Villages. I am only saying that although one would be bad, we are not as bad as most communities.

re sexual offenders, (they are not all predators): Did you know that when two 17 year olds are in a sexual relationship, and one of them turns 18, that makes the 18 year old subject to charges of sexual offense AND a prison term of up to two years? I assisted one such young man in starting college from behind bars in my position as Psychological Specialist.

I agree that you should not judge people with the labels thrown at them. Look at the facts of the case made against the person on these lists before just lumping them all together.

In Minnesota while a U of MN Law Student I worked with prisoners mainly at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Stillwater. Some of these men were way beyond any redemption by society. Others just made poor choices in their lives and had paid for them.

Too easy to go through life on stereotypes.

Default Story in Daily Sun Friday January 4...exepts below.

The story says that "between April and November he performed scant work at the victims property and depleted his bank account."

" would periodically appear at his (victims) home, claiming to have performed services and then ask the victim for money"

" was arrested and taken to the Sumter County jail where he was held without bond, according to the report." "has a lengthy criminal history, including prior charges of exploiting the elderly, grand theft and failing to appear in court, the report stated".

(Has photo of alleged perp and gives his name.)

When I looked on Sumterpa.com to see if he owned in Sumter county his name didn't come up. So he might have been living in Sumter county and renting or he might have lived in Lake or Marion.

Hard to believe that one person can take advantage of another for 50,000.00?? I wonder if this poor gentleman, or lady, had Alzheimers or something close to it? Sounds like he or she didn't have any help to make sure he or she wasn't going to get ripped off. As far as "Sexual Predators" etc, wish person would start a seperate thread on that, so we can follow up on Landscaper who took advantage, and his name etc. Such a shame!!! Sad

The perpetrator of this rotten crime is just a dirt bag, preying on elderly, maybe slightly incompetent people; and I cannot think of anything too bad to happen to him................. but, I am concerned by the fact that the homeowner continued to pay for work that had OBVIOUSLY not been done. There is a problem here and maybe that problem requires social services to see whether the homeowner is competent.

I am sorry to say that I speak from experience. I have a relative who is gradually disappearing into that black hole known as dementia and has no blood relative to oversee their actions.
