If you haven't already gotten a flu shot, please get one. It is not too late to get one, but it does take about 2 weeks for it to reach peak protection once you get the flu shot.
It is not a 100% guarantee that you will not get the flu, but it may lessen the severity and duration if you do get it. I believe I had the flu last week, but I was only sick for a couple of days as I got a flu shot a few months ago at work. I drive an 85 year old neighbor to church on Sundays, and she did not get a flu shot this season. She got the flu 2 weeks ago, and she ended up in the hospital with complications. Thankfully she is now getting better. Wash your hands, cover your cough, cough into your sleeve/your elbow not your hands, and use hand sanitizer. Now I'm off my soapbox. |

Be very cautious of the stronger dose flu shot. I did it and ended up in the hospital and found out it had an effect on other residents;albeit my wife and brother had the same dosage without any problems????????????
The flu shot this year does not fully cover influenza A or B prhaps 55-65% |

I didn't get one because of extenuating circumstances. Yesterday I was at Walgreen's. I passed by the line at the prescription area. Long, Long line of sick folks picking up scrips. Coughing and coughing. I wasn't there to pick up a script, but if I were, I wouldn't have gotten in that line....maybe try the drive up window. For the time being, I'm only going to public places if I absolutely have to....and then I don't breath...

I think everyone should get a flu shot and it's not too late as the virus is sweeping the country, I got mine back in October and got the flu just before new years but it lasted for a day with minor symptons. I would hate to think what it would have been like if I didn't get a shot.
A doctor tells me it builds up your immune system for the particular strain that would be prevalent for that year. There have been numerous deaths this year due to the flu. Please consider getting the flu shot.

At the church i go to, the priest has asked parishoners to nod instead of shake hands to avoid spreading germs.

I'm not shaking hands these days! I got the flu shot because I have a compromised immune system so it was recommended. "Knock wood" I still am healthy. I know of some folks getting pneumonia, some have ended up in the hospital. Driving past Urgent Care facilities---have seen the parking lot full out in front!! Tis the season for sure!!

It is probably a good idea not to receive the communion wine either.

I agree with not shaking hands during the sign of peace and not receiving communion wine at least for the next month or so. My church does not have a very large congregation, but we are a very friendly congregation -- much hugging occurs during the sign of peace. Maybe we should just do the wave of peace or the nod of peace and pass on receiving communion wine for the next few weeks...
