Default Refrigerator upgrade

We will be moving into our new CYV in three weeks. I want a side by side refrigerator with water dispenser and had hoped the builder would let me have an upgrade if I paid the extra cost but it isn't an option. I guess we will sell our new fridge and get what we want. Is their a market here in the Villages if I try to sell on TOTV?

Maybe. We moved into our new spec home last Feb. with a promise from my husband that we could replace the side-by-side that came with it with a French door/bottom freezer model like we have up north. We bought such a one, put the side-by-side on TOTV and a couple of newspapers, a couple of times, to no avail. Finally, this fall, we donated it to Habitat for Humanity. I wish you'd had this dilemma a few months earlier!

Good luck. We got no calls on our brand-new, never-used stainless steel side-by-side with water and ice in the door. But oh well. I'm really sold on the French door/bottom freezer Whirlpool we have. And I hope some worthy person is enjoying our side-by-side in their new Habitat home. Actually, I'm kinda glad the way it worked out... although my DH is probably on the fence a bit.

You might want to consider having extra refridgerator in garage for just "Happy Hours" hehe We bought new refridgerator, and put old one in garage, and utilize it every day. Great for drinks, extra frozen foods etc. (Suggest you have outlet installed for area of garage)

If you have a gas cart, there's an unused dedicated 20A receptical ready for your fridge.

A villa comes with a small garage. No room to keep an extra fridge even if I wanted to.

We closed on our newly constructed home 2 years ago and did not like the dishwasher or stove available in the offered packages. We dealt directly with the appliance subcontractor, and arranged for the original installed appliances to be swapped out the day after closing. They were very fair in the charge to upgrade, and we also purchased our washer and dryer from them. Something to investigate.

We closed less than 3 weeks ago on a new Designer series home, and have a Whirlpool black side by side with water and ice dispensor that we would like to sell, as we are planning on bringing our almost new french door to replace it. It has been lightly used for the 3 weeks as we don't have our furniture here yet. PM me if you want to discuss this..

Had you tried Craigslist? Our next door neighbor upgraded his appliances after he moved in and sold his Villages supplied refreigerator in short order...

We deleted all the kitchen appliances except the microwave during our design process. You may be able to delete them for credit. Check with your sales agent.

I think this is an option only if you are building. In a spec home or a villa home already built you can't trade them out, at least that was so in 2008. We advertised here and sold our refrigerator as a beer fridge for someone's garage, but don't ask what it is worth or you won't sell it.

We heard about that too and checked with Del-Air Appliances, the vendor for the villages in case we don't like the appliances when we do our design appointment next week. Unfortunately, they said they are no longer swapping out appliances for new ones. They said that they will install an difference appliance at builder prices, and remove the old appliance and place it in the garage, etc for you to sell, donate or dispose of. Too bad.

Lots of people like their side-by-sides, but we found that things got pushed to the back in the less-wide shelves, and we were constantly shifting things around to find the item we wanted. This doesn't happen in the french door fridge with bottom freezer. There is just more width in the refrigerator, and things are easier to spot. Also--don't laugh--we tend to each put any specific-to-us items on one side or the other, and then yell ENCROACHMENT if we find the other's things on our side! (Just a stupid family joke.)

Since we don't use the freezer as much as we use the fridge, we appreciate not having to bend over all the time to get things out of the fridge. The ice makers that are now available in the doors of french door fridges have been greatly improved, work better and don't take up much space like they did in the earlier models.

Just one opinion.

I am looking for a refrigerator for our garage in the new home. Closing on Feb 13th.
What kind do you have? How much do you want for it?
