Did U know that that outlet(s) can easily be used for under cab lights as well.
Just route your wires down thru the top This saves the trouble and expense of adding an outlet under your cabinets.

Must be something fairly new. Ours doesn't have outlets installed above the cabinets. (2006 build)

Yes, jimbo. Just dropped the extension cord down between the cabinets, and hooked up LED strips from Home Depot.

I'm sure that's not according to code. If that causes a fire, don't expect your insurance to pay. Don't mess around with electricity and take shortcuts. Have an electrician do it right the first time.

I'm pretty sure your insurance would pay for a fire....the only way they would not pay, is if you intentionally started the fire...ie. arson.

Not a shortcut. Of coarse they would pay, if that were the case every extention cord in a home would give them an out.

Thanks for your concern. However, let me be more specific. The LED strips that I have run on low voltage. They are connected by a short wire to a dimmer control (probably solid state). There is about a 4 foot lead from the dimmer to a normal 2-prong plug. So there is nothing wrong with fishing the lead through the airspace between two adjacent cabinets to reach the wall outlet above. It's not part of the home wiring system.

I just had an electrician (licensed) do the exact same thing, fished the cord down between the cabinets, if I had known it was that easy I would have done it myself. I did do the above cabinet lighting myself, have a surge outlet strip on top of the cabinets that everything connects to. Wish I had seen this thread that Jimbo started earlier, but this was about 3-4 weeks ago that I had my LED undercabinet lighting done and paid $$.
