What type of golf cart would be better for the occasional resident who rented his or her house out for a good part of the year.

I know one of my neighbors had a problem with his electric golf cart in the garage for an extended period of time. He came home to find battery acid damage on the floor of his garage which seeped out under the garage door to the driveway area. He had quite a mess to deal with.

How are you going to arrange for the maintenance to be done on the batteries every couple of weeks? I think gas would give you fewer problems. Also less risk that the cart runs out of electricity when away from home. Extra gas is easier to get than a battery charge.

GAS, I've had both gas and electric for my rentals. Gas is the only way to go.

We have one gas and one elec. Drive the elec mostly but you have to be diligent on elec for care but no problem here. Dont enjoy gasing up for $20 a tank . Have 4 year old elec batteries and still work good.

I am thinking gas would be better if the cart will have periods of non-use.

Just treat the last tank with STA-BIL and go for a short ride so that the STABIL has a chance to run thru the fuel system and you should be good to go when you return.

I have an electric cart and during periods of non-use, (3 months the longest) I have a Battery Minder that stays plugged in to keep the batteries topped off.

Gas would be best for rental property; however, I personally would never own one for my use. They smell and are noisy. You must show more attention to maintenance on the Electric cart, but for me the pay off of quiet clean efficiency is well worth it.

I can see us owning one of each when we are there for at least six months of the year.

If you are a year round user , gas is ok. However, with the introduction of E15 fuels be carefull. Long periods of inactivity leads to problems. An earlier post suggested using a fuel treatment. this should be done regularly. Golf carts are not designed to run on these fuels and all ethanol based fuels play hell and havoc with these small engines. Electric poses its own challanges as well. Yes, a battery trickle charger does help. Bottom line is that you must consider how you use the cart and your location to services,etc.
