There are so many ways to volunteer for charity and good works here you can't begin to count them.
There is the St.Vincent de Paul Society and Love Inc and Knights of Columbus. There is a group that raises funds for the local hospital. Many social and artists and musical groups and clubs raise money or contribute food for the local schools for the back pack program. Some of the local children who attend the local schools are literally homeless and hungry and food to send home with them in their backpacks is collected by many clubs and neighborhood organizations. There is an active Relay for Life group in the area and many churches have outreach programs. People take food to people in the Meals on Wheels program. There is a club called the Parrotheads that do good deeds, but I can't remember what good deeds they do. There is a group that helps build homes for people...Cannot think of the name this second. Many retired teachers volunteer to read to children and do other tasks to help in the classrooms. I have failed to mention dozens of ways, everywhere you turn kind people are donating their time and money to worthy causes for benefit of those who need it. I am sure others will chime in with some I haven't mentioned. This is a caring and giving place to live. I don't know if you wanted to volunteer or do what you did before working for pay for a non profit, but if you are looking to do good, there are a bunch of ways to do it here.

hurray I found a favorite! homeless vets org with transitional housing that comes to TV to pick up donations. They have a thrift store to support themselves. the vets work helping with the store and eventually work outside the organization. They are located nearby in Eustis. Donations of furniture, household goods, clothing, hygiene items are appreciated.
I would love to see an inside the villages collection effort organized to support this well-vetted organization...rehab and health care appear to be major components. www.vorrh.org. |
