A couple of people have mentioned that the free golf cart provided with the LSV was really slow. Has this been your experience? I was spurred on with the guy who couldn't find a cart to rent and is coming the same week we are. I thought if the free cart was so slow, we'd rent a gas one. Sound like we better start now if that's the case.

Slow and smelly in my time I used the one that came with the LSV.

Yes, you be better off renting one, preferably an electric unless you plan on logging a lot of miles. Then the gas cart would be a better choice.

Rental carts are set at 16 max speed.
Many home rental units set their carts that way also.
Gas carts that are not tuned up smell from gas fumes.
Electric carts must be plugged in every night.
Rental carts durning peak winter. Now . Are hard to get.

Yes, the cart provided in the Lifestyle Visit are from the Villages golfcart store. They are gas powered and are geared to about 15 mph - very slow. Mine is electric, goes the legal speed of 20 mph and hold a charge for around 50 miles. No fumes, no noise - good cart.

The maximum speed we could go with our LSV provided car was 10 mph.
But most of those cars look alike, so others DO realize you're in a loaner and that you will be slower.

To be courteous, (should you use one of these) keep an eye in your rear view mirror. If you see a line of golf cars piling up behind you and you are in a place where they can't pass, safely pull off onto the grass and let them go ahead of you. Use your turn signals to do this, so they are aware of your intent.
P.S. turn signals have to be shut off manually.

Many times people will be heading to a golf course starter shack and are trying to make their reserved tee time. They will be most appreciative of this considerate gesture.

Even in a loaner golf car, our LSV was a very fun experience. Enjoy!

We've been behind a couple of "lifestyle preview" carts that were running between 16 and 18 mph. Several years ago, the cart we got with our lifestyle preview deal seemed like it was a LOT slower than that.

Dave, I'd just go with the cart that's provided and enjoy!

In the past I've heard some people rule out buying a gas cart because of the slow speed of the lifestyle preview ones provided. Just to mention it if you don't already know, when you buy your own cart most people get one with high-speed rear end that those loaner ones on preview stay don't have. Then the speed maximum is set to 19 or 19.5 mph so you don't get a big fat ticket for speeding and other violations that go with speeding over 20.

As for getting a faster cart during preview, you can ask the TV people who booked your reservation to line you up with a rental one at your cost, that might be faster and have more features. They might be hard to get, though, since they are all rented out this time of year.

I had one of those in Jan. I was constantly being passed and trying to stay out of the way. Yes, they are very slow

Thanks everyone. Sounds like we're stuck with what we get regardless, because others won't be available. This summer the house we rented had a gas cart and we enjoyed it greatly. I'm already sure we'll go with gas if we get to move there.

You could get creative and make up a cardboard sign that says "Sorry Loaner" or "Sorry Rental" or something of that nature and hold it up if there is a line behind you.

And yes like others have said the carts are set anywhere from about 12 to 18 mph.

What the heck is your hurry? Even if you score a faster cart you are still going to be sitting in lines to get where you want to go and even though I'm no Einstein, common sense tells me it isn't going to make "a hill of beans" difference in your day! Just take the complimentary cart and slow down and smell the roses!

Wendy, keep in mind I spent a month here last June and couldn't see anything. This is the trip where we start to get serious and only have one week. I want to see everything I can, and cannot afford to take an hour to go two miles. We will be looking at lots of houses and that takes time.

Luckily I got the feeling of how nice it was to ride around in the cart this summer, even if I couldn't see where we were going.

Yup, they're pokey. We went in early December and spent a day following friends around...thank goodness they were patient! And...yes to smelly too. Can't wait to get there and buy our own!

Our Lifestyle Preview golf cart loaner was so slow, that by the time I shaved, showered and got to our a.m. destination, I was already growing stubble, and had to shave again <g>.

I was told that the carts that TV rents out still belong to Yamaha and are leased by TV, so they cannot alter the cart speed. I rented one for relatives of ours for a short time, and it certainly was disheartening to see them struggle to keep up with just the regular golf cart traffic.
