Default Barter? New Member Here

Hello everyone, we hope to meet you all some day.

We are Ken and Pam, currently living in Michigan.
Ken was born in NY, raised in Freeport, LI and Rio Rancho, NM.
Pam was born and raised in the greater Boston area.
We met and married in New Mexico some 20 years ago.

We own a Painting business here in Michigan that has been established for 18 years.

Anywho, we were wondering if there is a thread/topic on here for bartering?

We are only in the initial "Lifestyle" research, and have not even visited yet.
We are hoping to be able to do a week very soon, before our busy season when the weather turns warmer.

We are hoping to be able to "snowbird" for a while, so we could be here for the business in spring/summer...and then madly dash to TV...lol!

Again, hope we can meet many of you in coming visits!

Ken and Pam

to TOTV.

I did a search for "bartering" and it shows nothing on that subject. You can always start a thread of your own on the subject.

A LSV is necessary as there are no amount of words to do TV justice. You will be blown away by it's beauty and it's friendly people. Take the trolley tour and go to the squares to dance and mingle. Talk to anyone and everyone that you come in contact with.

BTW - "Bring your checkbook".

Are you thinking to barter your services, your painting expertise, for a discount on a home?

I am pretty sure that wouldn't work here. There are team after team of contractors all with specific jobs and many have been employed by the developer for many years. They build homes in 70 days and it is orchestrated like a ballet. When you get here you will see how things are set up and I am pretty sure you will be as wowed as most of us are.

But that doesn't mean that homeowners don't need good painters for their renovations.

Welcome. I hope you will enjoy your LSV.

Continue to ask any questions about this place that come to mind. A lot of us like to help, a few like to argue and some just act like somone just went wee wee in their Cheerios,

You will figure out who is who very soon.

I'm not sure exactly what the OP was referring to but bartering is pretty common practice in our area of NY. An electrician might swap services with a plumber. The pool guy might exchange services with a carpenter etc.. It works pretty well for local craftsmen.

Just to clarify...no, not for a discount on a new home.
Possibly for some rental time

I understand the building cycle, as we have been doing new construction, repaints, and commercial painting for 18 years.

Actually, just a general "barter" topic area would be good for all. (i.e....Craigslist)
This could be for anything...services...goods.....just neighbors trading things that they no longer need for things that they do need/want.

Just a thought....

Thanks for the info...we will be researching/visiting real soon!

Exactly Bluedog, and more!
Just last year, my company painted a Fence company's Office/Warehouse exteriors, and I got a new 6' cedar fence around my property in exchange.

But I also trade everyday items, boats, tools, furniture, etc... with others that have things I need or want, no painting involved.

I am all for it and folks from the midwest have been bartering for a long time. It is a good way to live.

We too love the barter experience ~ in our prior life (i.e. before TV) we had a business and we would barter for services, etc. It is a great way to get something done!!!

Welcome to TOTV and hope you will love TV as much as we do : )
