If you drive a Golf Cart for general transportation purposes, are you covered by any sort of liability insurance?

I suppose you would be if you purchase it, but it's not required.

We have golf cart insurance through AAA. Very reasonable.

If you do not have golf cart insurance and get in an accident that is your fault, you may very well be wiped out financially.

That would be at the top of my list of concerns.

Thinking people buy a separate golf cart policy that covers liability, property damage, medical payments, somewhat similar to an auto policy. It's quite affordable (ours is $140/year) thru independent agency The Villages Ins. It's worth every penny and Allstate, State Farm and AAA offer these policies too.
What NON-thinking people refuse to look at is that these policies are not available on golf carts provided in a rental home here. Nor are rental home carts covered on the homeowner policy the landlord has on the property! People who think they're getting a better deal on a rental home because it includes a golf cart are asleep at the wheel, with life-altering exposure in case of an accident having personal injury or death. And then there are the visiting grandchildren and their parents, not only driving but speeding in the cart their parents' or grandparents' rental home landlord has included....total insanity! THINK! |

Some people with older policies have them continued on ("grandfathered in") as existing policies before the companies stopped writing them here.....as is happening with sinkhole coverage!

I just purchased it last week. I was not grandfathered in as I have never had insurance with Allstate.

I carry full coverage on my golf cart. I suspect that the bill sponsored by Marlene O'tolle to get LSV de-certified so that the LSV owners can drop their spped and thus drop higher insirance rates is going to catch the eye of insurers. Because if they reduce premiums because the speed on these vehciles is reduced then the opposite could also be true. so if you have a golf cart that you juiced up the you could be getting a insurance rate boost

I bought full coverage that will repair or replace my cart. At the cost of carts it is a good investment.

It looks like there is already a link on this topic in the "All About Golf Carts and Things" forum on TOTV
We've asked an attorney to address golf cart insurance. A must read |

But what amazes me is the number of folks who think they are getting such a great deal on cart insurance at premiums of $100-140 from agencies like AAA, or The Villages. Despite being a new customer with them, The Allstate policy, for identical coverage and the extension of all insurance to a renter using my cart is a total of $62. |
