I received an e-mail this afternoon from what looks like a very official Visa site regarding my credit cards. Below is a copy of the e-mail and there was also an HTML attachment that they wanted you to click on. Of course I did not click on the attachment and I called my card issuing bank. The bank connected me with Verify by Visa and they verified that there was nothing wrong with my cards and this was another phishing expedition. Note the spelling error in the last line of text, appreciate has 2 p's and not 1.
Beware and do NOT open or click on any attachments. ========================================== Security Update Visa USA [sec.update@usa.visa.com] Visa Card Users Your credit card is suspended, because we've noticed you have not Activate verify by Visa. I get "warnings" and "alerts" all the time from companies pretending to be Pay Pal or Youtube or AMEX or Royal Bank, or my cousin in India, or my son Mike who wants me to mail him some extra vacation cash because his wallet was stolen. It's disgusting how many scam artists are out there. I never read emails unless they're from a trusted source, I just hit delete.

I was watching the news from back home on the internet last night and they had a story about scammer stealing social security check by using SS numbers and setting up online accounts with the SS Administration (this only works if you haven't already set up an online account with the SS Administration), they then use the account they set up to redirect payments. The people who had this happen to them found out when they received a letter from SS about the online account they set up, since the "local news" didn't do a good job fully investigating this story I'm not sure how many people actual had payments redirected or what kind of ordeal people had to go through to get it all fixed.
