Default The villages hospital out patient service

I just had a colonoscopy done at The Villages Hospital instead of my doctor's facility due to a latex allergy. I think there should be better communication between the doctor's staff and hospital staff. I was given one time by doctor to show up and another time by the hospital.(minor issue I know).

I saw at least 10 people in my out patient room, going over my chart, asking the same questions, signing it and then leaving. The anesthesiologist took three phone calls while talking to me, reading my chart and signing it. My procedure was scheduled for 12:30 and at 1:00 I was still in the out patient room. Finally some one comes rushing in and we find out that my name had been erased off the procedure board by accident when they sent another patient home. They took all the monitors off me and start wheeling my done to the test room. All of a sudden my blankets and gown are soaked down by my thigh area.

They never hooked up my IV and when they grabbed every thing to move me they never noticed. Once down in test room I had to ask for new blankets because I was cold and wet. They start too hook up IV and after putting bands on my arm, nurse states I hope these aren't latex. Luckily not but a little too late it they were. Hooked up IV down in wrist area and very painful when she put it in. Don't understand why down there.

Never once did anyone coming into my room go over to the hand sanitizer on the wall and clean their hands. The only time I saw a glove was when nurse put one(just one hand) on to insert IV.

Needless to say I am not impressed with The Villages Hospital. These were minor things but show the lack of checks needed insure that all patients are receiving quality care.

Just needed to get it off my chest.

Got it off your chest but accomplished nothing. Why not call to have a meeting with the hospital admistrator? Another meeting with your doctor?
How can things be fixed if no one knows?

I agree the hospital should hear all the things that went wrong in this situation. If it had happened to me, you can believe I would be in their offices. However, I am quite sure it wouldn't be the first time they would hear similar stories given the ongoing comments and posts about the problems at TV hospital. And just to assume the OP only posted to get it off their chest, there is no reason to believe the OP did not speak to their doctor or the hospital to recount this disaster of an experience.

Although there have been some who have felt they have had "quality" care far more, too many, have posted comments reflecting serious issues. In fact, I met a woman who was a nurse there for three weeks and quit because she felt the hospital was so poorly run. For sure, if I can make it to Leesburg, or Shands, I will be avoiding TV Hospital.

EXACTLY!!! "IF" they'd get enough of these (given how it seems so many on TOTV have had issues) they'd soon have a big turn-around!! Saying that---my experience with TVH was exemplary!!

An issue that definitely needs to be discussed with hospital administration!! Supervisory personnel should be alerted if treatment is questionable. I am sorry for your experience. Nothing taints your confidence like less than perfect care. As far as the time differences, that could be due to patients added or subtracted to the schedule after you were told by the doctors office.

Aaargh!....erasing you off the board, the anesthesiologist (the most important person in the room) taking phone calls while he is reviewing your allergies and meds, and no one following proper hand sanitation. I would complain also!

Better to avoid these facilities unless absolutely necessary. More people die each year from hospital mistakes than colon cancer.

I recently had outpatient surgery at The Villages Hospital. For the most part, all went well. My earlier, related experience in ER though was a disaster.

I went to ER the evening of March 1 when I broke my arm (which is why I haven't posted in so long, btw.) The five hour wait to see a doctor is understandable. First come, first served doesn't work in ER. Triage must always, always come first. I get that.

What is not reasonable is that I remained in excrutiating pain for five hours without medication. That's just cruel. The nurses claimed that the doctor would have to examine my arm before pain medication could be administered. That was not true. First words out of the doctor's mouth as he was entering my room were, "has anyone given you anything for pain"? When I said no, he said, "start the morphine drip". Thankfully he wasn't sadistic enough to examine my arm without administering pain medication. Unfortunately, by then, the morphine was useless. There was no getting the pain under control after five excrutiating hours.

Then, when the x-ray tech was sent for, no doctor or nurse stayed to help position my arm for the x-ray. The tech either couldn't or wouldn't. I had naively thought the pain could not possibly get any worse but sadly discovered I was mistaken when forced to position my arm for xray unassisted by someone who could take the pressure off my arm. Again, cruelty beyond belief. First do no harm?

Surely, they can do better.

PT..I am so sorry...What a horrid experience. Absolutely no excuse for no pain meds. Hope you are on the mend and are drinking good wine to keep the pain away

Well I've learned the lesson: Don't get sick and don't break anything. And if it should happen, God forbid, don't go anywhere to have it fixed. Get hubby to do it, as I've also learned that he can fix anything.

The Villages. But I keep hubby under wraps and sequestered. Wouldn't want word to get out.

I don't want to appear harsh and am sorry for everyone who has expressed their dissatisfaction - please let the appropriate folks know at the hospital so that corrections or your issues can be researched. It's one thing to let all of us know but the right thing is to contact the hospital to get some of these issues resolved.
