Default Any water meter covers that pop up during the night!

We have some kind of "critter" living in water meter....Every morning water meter lid pops up....Any ideas?????

Sounds like a raccoon or a possum is lifting it to get at some geckoes or frogs that might hide inside.

I live north of 466. My water meter cover is cement and not plastic. No animal is going to be able to lift the cement cover - I HOPE!

test the critter theory by putting dirt around the lid and look for prints? coons are incredibly strong, clever devils.

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. During these heavy rains, the box fills up with water and the lid floats up. By the time you see it, the box is empty but the lid is ajar. We told the utility dept about this. They sent a guy over, who explained it that way. Since most of the covers have poor or broken latches, he just screwed a #12 sheet metal screw into the seam between the cover and box rim. That has been an effective fix. You could do it yourself.
