Default Recommendations Orthopedic Ankle surgeon??

Does anyone know of a good orthopedic ankle surgeon in or close to The Villages? Need bone spurs removed and possible future ankle replacement! I have done a search but have not found anyone that specializes in ankles. Thank you!

I did extensive research for my wife on the subject. Conclusions: 1. For major surgery, go to an orthopedic surgeon, not a podiatrist. 2. Go to an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in feet and ankles. 3. I believe that there are only two of these in Central Florida, both highly qualified and both at Jewett Clinic in Orlando. I found none in The Villages. The paucity of MD specialists is due to the fact that the field of feet and ankles has largely been preempted by podiatrists--many of whom are qualified, but they do things like removing corns, etc. as well as surgery.

My wife ended up using Dr. Papa at Jewett for major foot surgery, with good results. However, his partner, Dr. Choung, also has excellent credentials and we would have used either one. You can check their credentials at the Jewett website.

Incidentally, Florida is one of the few states that makes a Doctor's malpractice history publicly available. To get to the state website, you can Google "Florida malpractice". Before choosing any Doctor, that is a good first step.
