When we built our home, we did a lot of stretching. We assumed the builder/TV would take into consideration the stretches when figuring out the a/c, etc. Apparently not. Be forewarned. If you are building, it is YOUR responsibility to ask them if the a/c will accommodate the changes and if you are concerned, you will have to figure it out. We are going to have to put in an extra vent because the vent they put in doesn't get in to the additional room they added.

Seems like a very major omission and the correct sizing of the AC should have been part of the cost of the stretching. Did they stretch the roof or leave that to you also?
By the way sizing AC is very scientific and a lay person can not do it. You need to know the building materials, directions windows face, etc.

Seems like so many that build homes DO MANY stretches. Would like to hear from others with this problem. We have our design selection next week and have not seen this situation mentioned before

Yes, air flow is something they should have sophisticated programs for. But initially the builder's supervisor said to me, "Well the vent was on the plans".. like i was supposed to be able to surmise how airflow would be affected. When it came time for warranty, a supervisor told me that the minimum difference in air temp is within code. That the room is hotter because of the computer equipment (one modem and one laptop) and I should go get a fan if it bothers me. My point was that when they stretched the laundry room out to accommodate the 6 1/2 foot office, they should have moved the vent so it isn't 4 inches from the overhang of the doorway. The cold air either hits the overhang and goes nowhere or if the vents are directed further down, the air hits the floor...cold air does not rise so the only thing you can get cool is the floor. It's stupid. So we are just letting those know who are building to stay on top of any changes. As for the roof, they did make the joist changes to accommodate the extensive mid stretch. But now that you mention it, I hope they put in the proper joists...
