Default Home Insurance Increase

My husband and I own two homes in The Villages. We just got our annual insurance policies and they had increases on them. One went up by $4.00 the other went up by $374.00! I called on the higher one and they said there was an error and they redid it. Now it is still up by $110.00! I called them again and said this is way too high of an increase. They said they would look into it but they suggest if I did not like it I could look somewhere else. I don't understand how one house is up by $4.00 and the other by $110.00. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else had a high increase. I don't want to name the insurance company but it is one used in The Villages.

"but they suggest if I did not like it I could look somewhere else"

After a comment like that, I wouldn't just look elsewhere, I'd immediately change companies and request a prorated refund of any money prepaid. That's not the way to run a business!

they can't say it's big secret..

Not sure why someone posts part of the story, without the companies name why ask the question...

The OP was asking the question if anyone else has had a large increase in their homeowner policy...
I think it's a reasonable question. By asking this , they're testing the waters to see if others were hit by price increases.
Again, a reasonable question was asked...

I agree, use a broker that carries multiple insurance companies and shop around. When we did this we were quoted anywhere from $500 to almost $1,500 a year for insurance

Do you have sinkhole coverage and has there been an incident in the neighborhood of the affected house? I seem to remember on another thread that someone bought a house and then found the insurance was going to be high as there was a sink hole a couple of streets over.

Yes, my ins. did go up by $ 400.00. I was also told that I could shop around. I had the Ins. with Ark in the Villages. I did go with Geico in Gainsville. I am paying a lot less with better coverage. It does pay to shop around.

ASI increased our insurance by around $200 this year. When we started we were at $800 and now 5 years later we pay $1200. One thing to check is if you have sinkhole coverage on your current policy. If you do you may just have to bite the bullet and pay the price with your current company. Most times you will lose your sinkhole coverage by switching companies. Not that many companies write sinkhole coverage for anything other than new builds. I'm just suggesting that you may want to check before going to another company just in case.

we have to find new homeowners insurance for the villa that we own, but my mom lives in. Citizen's dropped us because we don't live in the house.
