HOWEVER, the difference is...and it is large....Zimmerman claimed self defense, and the police has no evidence...NONE... to invalidate his claim. They had no case and we saw at trial what happens when you arrest with no evidence. Please read what the POLICE had to say about all of this. There was no evidence to arrest Zimmerman and they followed the LAW....THE LAW. Folks just do not talk about what the police say in this case....it is just ignored.... ""Why didn't you arrest him?" Local 6 investigative reporter Tony Pipitone asked. "Because I took an oath. The laws of the Constitution and the state of Florida say if you don't have probable cause to arrest someone you can't arrest them," Lee replied." "He revealed for the first time some of the internal deliberations and pressures with the police department and City Hall, including what became regular requests that he charge Zimmerman. Those pressures, he said, contributed to the decision to hurriedly send the case to the state attorney before the police received cellphone records that would have led them to Rachel Jeantel, the young woman Trayvon Martin was speaking to just before he was shot. Armed with Jeantel's statement, special prosecutor Angela Corey found enough probable cause to charge Zimmerman with second-degree murder, a decision effectively upheld last week when Judge Debra Nelson rejected the defense motion for judgment of acquittal. Lee complains that the involvement of civil rights lawyers and activists complicated his investigation, leading to a lack of full cooperation from Martin's family. He also said he is absolutely certain Tracy Martin told his detective the screams on a 911 call that captured the shooting were not from his son, Trayvon. Tracy Martin testified in court earlier this week that he was misunderstood by authorities and distraught from hearing his son on the call. Additionally, Lee criticized the special prosecutor's office for interviewing Jeantel in the presence of Martin's weeping mother, Sybrina Fulton." Ex-Sanford police chief tells Local 6 why he didn't arrest George Zimmerman | News - Home I have never ever personally defended Zimmerman...I have never ever chastised either of the principles. My objection and probem is with the political interference that has been involved in this case from the beginning and has muddied it totally. Let the police do their job. |

I think that the problem was not a thorough investigation by the Sanford police. If the investigation had been started promptly, Gov. Scott would not have had to appoint a special prosecutor. The Sanford police were sweeping this under the rug without a prompt, thorough investigation. They very would might have concluded after a thorough investigation that there was sufficient grounds for arresting and charging Z with a crime.

Sorry if it looks like I am highjacking the thread, just wanted to make the point that this divisive and unyieldingly partisan way of looking at every issue is bringing this country down.

Now I know what hijacking a post means.
No problem as all of the above has been interesting.........I welcome the response. All I meant by posting that hyperlink was that white kids get shot every day all across the U.S......or in this case, stabbed, for no good reason.........but we all are not out marching, protesting, or otherwise bringing attention over and over again to Brian Topeleski's senseless murder. When we were watching the Egyptians protesting in the streets last week, I thought "Don't they have jobs or families to tend to?" Little did I know that we would soon see gatherings like that in our country......over something that happens in every state every day. What about the black youth on black youth murders in Chicago and Detroit and elsewhere. I don't see them protesting that. I'm not racist. This is just how it appears to the average viewer. Considering the heat in Florida and up here....in the 90's......there must be cooler ways to honor this young man who suddenly has become a saint. |

Those who did not participate in the political forum may not understand but to have Coach, Buggy and I pretty much on the same wave length is certainly an event of major proportions.. I also, until the verdict stayed away (and frankly quietly seethed) at the political interference from the beginnings and then watched post after post be simply a political message and completely unrelated to law and order (apologies to the TV series) You are correct...so many, on everything that happens tune in or read what political position they are supposed to take and then ignore all facts that could make them waver. I wonder how some can even decide anything without their favorite cable news network telling them how to feel. Everything is not political |
