If you could visit just ONE day in your childhood, which day would it be?
And why ??? |

October 30, 1964. The day before my mother passed away, so I could hug her and tell her how much I loved her and appreciated her.

I am going to say early '70's because at that point all my grandparents were living and some of my great grans. My last grandparent passed away in 1996. They all had a great impact on my life and hardly a day goes by that I don't think about them. If I could just spend one more day with them and have that hug that only a grandchild knows the meaning of.

One day (don't remember the date but I was about 8) my family, Mama, Daddy, me and a couple of cousins drove through the Blue Ridge mountains in Virginia and saw a beautiful natural phenomenon, called Natural Bridge. We had dinner and I thought, and still think, it was the best dinner I'd ever had. We didn't go out to eat very often and Daddy hardly ever went on vacations with us, so I guess that made it special.

If I could visit one day in childhood it would probably be my first time going from my childhood home in Iowa to the friendly confines of Wrigley Field to see the Chicago Cubs play. That would have been 1968 or 1969. I went with my Dad who has been a Cubs fan his whole life. That's a lot of years to wait for a winning team - LOL.

My childhood memories are always of summer -- riding my bike and playing with the neighborhood kids all day, then coming home to see my mother putting the red and white checked cloth on the picnic table in our back yard so we could all eat outside. My grandmother was usually there.
One day in particular when I was about 10, it was windy and the flowers from our cherry tree were getting blown off. I stood in the backyard with my arms outstretched and face uplifted to the sun while the soft petals rained down on me. In that moment, I felt such pure joy in living. |

My parents were both born in Ireland and I spent a few summers there as a child. Any day on the farm in Ireland visiting my cousins and aunts and uncles and grandparents is a very special memory for me.
