Default Sumter ambulance provider files for bankruptcy [rural/metro]

does rural/metro service the villages? at least they predict service to remain normal thru the process.

Sumter ambulance provider files for bankruptcy - Daily Commercial: News

snippets from the article:
'The company filed Chapter 11 petitions in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, intending to use the process to significantly reduce its debt, renegotiate unprofitable contracts, and free up capital for investments to strengthen its business and further improve patient care, company CEO Scott A. Bartos said in a statement.'

'Operations are expected to continue as normal throughout the bankruptcy process and Rural/Metro anticipates completing its restructuring in the fourth quarter of 2013.'

'On June 25 of this year, the Sumter County Commission extended its original two-year contract with Rural/Metro for another five years, effective Sept. 1. The original contract included a subsidy from the county for $1.52 million a year, which was reduced to $990,000 a year under the new contract because the company intends to increase user fees to keep them in line with surrounding counties, county documents show.'

Smile

The problem: America's Healthiest Hometown! Not enough sick people being transported to the hospital. Being healthy is taking its toll on the healthcare industry (wink-wink).

Default Rural/Metro is THE ambulance in The Villages

If you live in the Sumter County portion of The Villages then Rural/Metro is your service provider. Several years ago they came to town and underbid the long-time ambulance provider Lake/Sumter EMS.

I guess now we know how they were able to be the low-bidder...........

I said when they changed, new isn't always better. But it was all about the money on both the county for wanting to save and the ambulance company for wanting to make more so they under bid the other long standing company. JMO
