Default anyone familiar with "Sunburst" plantation shutters?

Out here in the west they are "Sun Mountain". They make a PolyWood plantation shutter that is outstanding.

We stumbled on to them and have used them in the last 2 homes we built out here. They hold up very well, and are well constructed (no gaps or loose spots)and very attractive.

I have checked here and they say they have a rep in Ocala, but showrooms are in Orlando or Tampa.

Just wondering if anyone has their product and how it compares to the others which are well represented in TV.

Thanks,

Thanks,
I had Sunburst the last two homes we owned up North and LOVED them. I did not do the research you did here to find them.... had I known they were available in Ocala or Orlando, I would have ordered them in a heartbeat!
I looked around extensively here for an equivalent, but frankly, didn't find one.

We did buy shutters- a name brand purchased though:
Window Reflections-Roxanne Stafford
103 N. Main- Wildwood
(352) 330-2055
They are not the quality of Sunburst- but not as expensive either. The material they are made from is very close, if not the same. They are not as sturdy, however and not as precision built. The frame enclosure (around the windows) is not as wide.... but for the price point, they are acceptable. We get many compliments on the look.
I could not match the quality of construction of Sunburst without going to a wood product- which I did not want.
I mentioned one thing in an older thread that I will add again here. If you want the bottom of the window casing to have trim (like Sunburst) you may have to change out or saw down the cultured marble sill our windows here have.... to accommodate a bottom trim piece. That piece is not typically included.
I did not know that until they installed them (!) - and to my eye, it is not as custom a look as it should be.
Unless Sunburst has changed radically, if you can get them Dotti, I'd jump all over that- even if it means a trip to Orlando!

Default Thoughts On Shutter Framing

After some shopping around, we had plantation shutters installed by a local dealer last year. I hate to say I can't recall the name if the dealer or the brand of the shutters. The dealer is on that street paralleling 466 across from Walmart and the shutters were manufactured in Orlando.

We loved the shutters but weren't as enthusiastic about the framing choices for the shutters. We wanted an inside mount, so I had the dealer install them that way. Then I called Creative Finish Carpentry, the contractor who installed our crown molding and who is so popular here in The Villages. They installed both wider window framing with a nice traditional design and a pediment above each window that is a much richer look than the more simple "all around" framing offered by the shutter manufacturer.

The Creative design also included a piece of framing that they fabricated to incorporate the existing window sill. The framing offered by the shutter manufacturer would have been only top and sides, with no piece offered to accommodate the sill. I can't recall the exact pricing, but while the custom framing was somewhat more expensive, the "look" is well worth it.

Uptown girl, thanks for your input. The Sunburst shutters are the best I have ever seen and I was happy to hear that you feel the same! I will certainly get a bid from the Ocala rep and some of the others locally as well as the Wildwood co you used.
I hope the quality is what we found with their earlier products. If that's the case I think I will pay the difference. They always exceeded my expectations!

Kahuna,
I like the sound of your trim. I had not even considered the marble sill and the complications it would cause. It sounds like your trim co did a great job in their finish around the windows.
I put them in my sub contact list!
Thanks so much!
