Default Redirecting Yamaha Tailpipe reduce noise?

Does redirecting a Yamaha EFI gas cart tailpipe to exit the rear instead of the side reduce engine noise?
I would appreciate any expert advise or anyone experienced with such a modification.

I'm not an expert but since I see there were no replies I'm going to put in my two cents. We have an extended tailpipe on our Yamaha gas cart. I think yes it helps cut down on the noise but most importantly it cuts down on the fumes. Ours dropped off a couple of times and I could definitely tell the difference. I also think the additive put in the gas makes our motor run smoother.
