Default Colony Update

The Community Watch was mandated by the District to direct traffic at Colony.

As a member of " The Watch " and a Veteran of being out on that Colony intersection. I ask all to please be careful and slow down.

We are seeing cars and carts trying to jump ahead of others or sneak around the traffic patrol.

The entire situation is a HUGE accident just waiting to happen.

I cannot comment to exact details but lets leave it that some car and cart drivers are not acting like adults and making this a friendly home town retirement community.

Poor language, insults, third fingers and even a few fights with golf cart vs golf cart are now the norm of the week.

I must say that 90% of our villagers are very polite, safe drivers and thank the watch. The community watch guys are out there in adverse conditions for minimum wage working the best they can. And no police are not going to be brought in. It is a a stop gap plan maybe till April until a solution is worked out.

If cars could please deviate from the colony road it would sure help.

Happy Holidays all and be safe out there!

Living in Bonita, I have been avoiding Colony to get to Publix etc.

I stay on Morse or Canal to 466a the go left to the light at Colony Plaza.....same coming out of Plaza....

Eazy Peazy .... Carts are safe from me & I have peace of mind of not having hit anyone.

Takes less time!

But then I'm a guy who most often goes right to go left to avoid crossing several lanes.

Use your knoggin & keep on pluggin!!!!!!!!!

I agree. I always use 466a. They should just put up a sign on Morse Blvd.
REC CENTER ONLY NO THRU TRAFFIC. And a DO NOT ENTER sign on the mall side

When you are proceeding on Colony Plaza Rd??? from Morse as you approach the intersection, the traffic manager cannot be seen because of the truck that is parked blocking your view. Never saw a fight or cussing when we were barely managing the backed up traffic ourselves.

I use that intersection daily and appreciate what the Watch is doing. No close calls for me since they started do traffic management. Wish they would come up with a permanent fix though.

That is called "critical thinking". Rare these days.

I wonder about the legal issues having civilians direct traffic?
If they cause an accident,
If they are hit by a car or cart,
If their actions result in a death?

Food for thought.

Yep, Trish, many of us oldies are still around and kicking. It makes me wonder where so many of the other cool and fun posters are? Where are they? PTurner, Bill'Brillo, AngieFox, Fumar....and so many others who used to post regularly. I miss the FUN and the cool sense of humor by many of them.

Back to OP. You're a member of Community Watch, Herv? Hmmm....I bet you have stories to tell. Oh yes!

Hats off to ALL the Community Watch drivers who are doing a great job at that intersection.
Personally, I've been going to the new Sweetbay just to avoid that whole shopping center congestion. It's a mess down there. Can't help but think it will only get worse in January, February and March, let alone when they build those new homes in Fruitland Park.
Be safe, slow down, have patience and use common sense.

Default good point

Watch was trained by Sumter and Marion count police,
The Distric has legal coverage over the traffic directors.
The watch is covered under a state law allowing traffice control.
That road is also district and private.

No one is comfortable being out there!
