Default Question : 50 Thanksgivings From Now.....

Next Thursday many of you will have the opportunity to gather around the traditional holiday table at which will be seated perhaps 4 generations of your family .

The family you built in a Nation of freedom , liberty and general prosperity . And of course through your dedication and many years of hard work and personal sacrifice .

As you look into the faces of your grandchildren and perhaps great grandchildren , even if it is in spirit-- if they can not actually join with you in person , no doubt , for at least a brief minute your thoughts may turn to the question as to what their Thanksgiving 50 years from now will be like ?

Will they still live in a great Republic ? Will they be blessed with freedom and liberty and the ability to pursue happiness ?

What do you think our Nation will look like 50 years from now ?

John Adams our second President enjoyed a long life and was a constant scholar and a prolific writer especially about the subjects of freedom , democracy and the dangers of power .

Two quotes of his many which I have written in my personal " collection of great quotes " :

Adams on the future of Democracy ............

" Remember Democracy never lasts long . It soon wastes , exhausts and murders itself . There has never been a democracy which has not committed suicide ".

Adams on Power : [ referencing political / governmental power ] ......

" Power always sincerely and conscientiously believes itself right.
Power always thinks it has a great soul and vast views beyond the comprehension of the weak " .

I do believe that the question of what our Nation might look like 50 years from now can be discussed without the conversation breaking down to a political " food fight ".

So I hope that many might reflect a moment on what the next 50 years may bring to those members of our families who will tasked to carry on and raise the children of our continuing legacy .

May God Bless you all . May your travels and the travels of your family members and friends be safe and may your turkeys be " moist and not dry " . Cheers and a Toast for all you have done to advance the American Dream .

Our nation 50 years from now will not be the wonderful place it was. We have grown complacent and too nice about being politically correct. I think I'm glad that I will not be here in 50 years to view the downward spiral gather steam.

Once any nation learns they can vote themselves money from the public treasury, they are doomed to collapse. We now have 50% of the population receiving money from the government. Social Security, Welfare, Disability, Military and Government retirement, Food Stamps, unemployment, Medicaid, and other programs. This is not to say any of those programs are bad, just that when over 1/2 the people receive them we fail as a nation. Either the contributing population is growing fast enough to support it, or less people have to receive them.

China just changed their "one child" policy for this very reason. They know that they will never be able to support their aging population unless they expand the new population base.

So in 50 years we will be a very different place, one I don't want to be around to see.

Our decline is more than subsidies. It's lying politicians and a lack of moral character. It seems as if the current workforce is useless. They don't seem to follow through on anything. I pretty much no longer trust when an employee says they will do something - they don't. Sadly we are no longer the people our parents thought we and the next generations would be.

In 50 years Thanksgiving will be politically incorrect and will be just a memory to the new "old" people. They will have rewritten the history books because we obviously wronged someone back in the 1600s.

I sincerely believe, I won't be here 50 years from now. Heck, I would have to live to be 119 years old. That's not happening.

I like to think my son and granddaughter, will carry on the tradition of putting family first, and be respectful of others. I think the young men and women who protect us in war and peace will carry the day. Thanksgiving, will be a time for family and being grateful, that we live in this great country. IMHO

It's somewhat sad on how society has changed, since we were children and young adults, ourselves. Let us hope that most people will realize that being respectful of others, is a very good thing.

The Villages will come close to reaching the size of Rhode Island.

I sincerely believe in democracy and our country's ability to constantly readjust itself to maintain that status. I believe our children 50 years from now will still live in that solid democracy, the greatest of countries despite its flaws and pimples.
