Default Saying Grace at Thanksgiving for all of our Blessings

Please share a favorite grace, prayer or hymn for Thanksgiving..............

Come Ye Thankful People Come Thanksgiving Hymn

Come, ye thankful people come,
Raise the song of harvest home:
All is safely gathered in,
Ere the winter storms begin.
God, our Maker, doth provide
For our wants to be supplied:
Come to God's own temple, come,
Raise the song of harvest home.

All the world is God's own field,
Fruit unto God's praise to yield:
Wheat and tares together sown,
Unto joy or sorrow grown.
First the blade, and then the ear,
Then the full corn shall appear:
Lord of harvest, grant that we
Wholesome grain and pure may be.

For the Lord our God shall come,
And shall take this harvest home:
From God's field shall in that day
All offenses purge away;
Give God's angels charge at last
In the fire the tares to cast,
But the fruitful ears to store
In God's garner evermore.

Even so, Lord, quickly come
To Thy final harvest home:
Gather Thou Thy people in,
Free from sorrow, free from sin;
There, forever purified,
In Thy presence to abide:
Come with all Thine angels, come,
Raise the glorious harvest home.
Henry Alford and George J. Elvey

Come Ye Thankful People Come Thanksgiving Hymn

Thanksgiving commemorates a feast held in 1621 by the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag. A short prayer, grace or blessing of thanks is given before the meal remembering that "their youngest son said grace". These Prayers express gratitude to God for the things one has at the end of the harvest season.

Default Every family has their own traditions.

This is the one we always have said in our family;

Bless us oh Lord and these thy gifts which we are about to receive from thy bounty.

We give thee thanks almighty God for all of thy benefits, who livest and reignest forever.

(And always add.)

May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

AMEN.

AND a favorite Thanksgiving Hymn which we sang just this week is one that everyone knows I think

We gather together to ask the Lords Blessing....

Very nice. My first post above was a "hymn"....to be sung.

Actually, we've always let our children say the grace at Thanksgiving.
Now, it's our grandchildren who do the honors.........

A Child's Grace at Meals:

“God is great and God is Good,

And we thank God for our food;

By God's hand we must be fed,

Give us Lord, our daily bread. Amen. “

"Thank you God for all that grows,

Thank you for the sky's rainbows,

Thank you for the stars that shine,

Thank you for these friends of mine,

Thank you for the moon and sun,

Thank you God for all you've done!"

Our grandchildren are now 24 and 21.

That went fast.

Thank God for our wonderful memories of Thanksgiving over the years. WHOOPS. My picture was of Easter.

Graylyn and special person now...and below THEN.

Sorry but I couldn't resist.

I would have posted "desderata", (my favorite poem), but my family would have shouted me down before I would finish.

OK. Here it is:

Absolutely beautiful and very profound. I saved that version. Thanks.
I've always loved that poem; never heard it sung or spoken before.
Perfect for this season of the year.

My Grandfather had a job throughout the depression. He and his daughter (my Mom) often took food to the "cardboard Town" of homeless people. He ended every prayer he ever said with "And be with the man on the street." This is so relevant today with all the poverty and homelessness.

Jesus, we thank you for the blessings that you have bestowed upon us this year and in past years. We count our blessings daily. Bless this food and the hands that have prepared it. Continue to look with favor upon your humble servants. Amen

...or whatever prayer moves you while gathering with friends and or family.

This is my favorite of all time and was the favorite of my father. I have the original recording. This was one of the recordings played at his funeral in 1980. Daddy once said that if everyone could live like this, the world would be a whole lot better place. Thank you for bringing this up and sharing with those who are not familiar with it.

I often wonder why the ones of us who live in this wonderful country are so blessed. We have no concept of how some others are forced to go through life. None. At least I know I don't. I sometimes have to ask, "Why me, Lord, and mine?" What did we do to deserve this? I think he always treats us much better than we treat him too many times.

This is going to be a special time for us with family and friends. May we all remember to be thankful for all we have each and every day, not just once a year.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL! and may we remember those throughout the world, our country, our circle of friends who may not be so fortunate this year. A special thank you to those who go the extra mile for others and for sharing with those less fortunate.

My mother would always end her prayer at the supper table with "Bless this food to our bodies and us to thy service - Amen." The kids in our family would say the well known "God is great, God is good" blessing. One night, while visiting my brother, my 3 year old niece was asked to say grace. Taking the best from what she knew (God is great) and the prayer she often heard from my mother, she blessed our meal with "God is great, God is good. Thank you for our bodies. AMEN!" One of my favorite blessings ever

Your grandfather was a kindhearted man; reminds me of my Irish /Scottish stepdad. He was exactly the same way as his heart went out to the less fortunate even when he had little himself during and after the Great Depression.

He's lucky to have had you and your mom remember his good and selfless deeds.

My favorite poem too....packing up to move next month and I have this poem on a poster. It's just a poster and it's too long to move, going to leave it behind at Goodwill for someone who needs it in their life. It's as if you sent me a message that it's ok to leave it behind. Thank you.
