Default Warning: Nails in road on Hendry (Collier gate)

My first Thanksgiving in The Villages is not exactly going as planned! My guests just arrived for the day, after inadvertently running over an unidentified object just after the Collier gate on Hendry. As soon as they got out of the car, they noticed SEVEN nails sticking out of their tire! I've never seen anything like it. We went back to examine the road, and found strips of nails from a nail gun all over the road. We picked up as many as we could, and also reported it to The Villages Watch... But wanted to spread the word so that nobody else has to experience this Thanksgiving surprise.

Ouch!!! Sorry your friends had to experience this and thank you so much for taking the time and effort to pick up the nails you did.

Thanks for sharing! We live off of Hendry Drive in Collier and I cannot believe this sort of thing has been missed and should be reported and of course compensated for!

I am sorry this happened and hope it never happens again!

Also worried now as just tonight I have had a warning light, "low tire pressure"!

The newly built neighborhoods have many hidden nails. This time last year, I too had a nail in my tire after looking at some open houses. The guy at the Colony Tire Center showed me a large jar filled with nails they had taken out of tires.

These nails are from lazy contractors who don't store their equipment properly in their pickup trucks. If you walk any of the sidewalks south of 466a you will see nails and screws from time to time. You might even see paint spills on the roadways. My neighbor ran through a fresh paint spill with his brand new ,week old car. There were splatters all over his tires and car.

There are many nails all over TV. In my 4 to 5 mile walks I always pick up nails or anything sharp that can cut a tire. One day I found 27 mails, tacks ETC in one intersection and they were all different styles and types.

Yes the new area is more prone that the older but the older still gets it's share.

As it turns out, BOTH of our guests had flat tires from the construction nails dropped by the gate. I would not be at all surprised if there are more with the amount of nails we picked up. One or two nails you can understand- but strings upon string of nails all over the ground is inexcusable .

Until they get finished building South of 466A to 44, this is going to be a common occurrence. I've already plugged my drivers side tire, now the passenger rear is going down. I'm sure its another nail or screw.

Community Watch has large magnets that hang below the rear bumper of some of their trucks to pick up nails and other metal debris. If people report these problems to CW, they will very likely increase their 'sweeping' in the reported area. I got them to sweep our street in Pinellas by asking. It isn't absolute protection but every nail picked up is one less that can puncture a tire.

Good information!! You would think they would automatically concentrate on the areas of construction, without being notified?

I think they do target the construction areas but it is a case of a thousand nail droppers and only 3-4 guys trying to find them all.
