Baby it's cold outdise and in my home too!!!

Does anyone know if it's significantly more expensive, to run the heat in your
home?

Being a newbie to Florida weather, I was just wondering? I believe it runs on gas, if that is a factor. I turned it on this morning, to prevent iciles from developing on my nose.

It great for sleeping but... in the AM.

Mine is a heat pump, which is sometimes called a reverse cycle AC. Costs are not significant, because we only use it to take the edge off first thing in the morning. The house seems to hold heat very well due to higher insulation requirements for AC, and tight insulated doors and windows. The inside temp. rarely drops below 70 overnight with no heat running.

Heating costs in The Villages are minimal compared to A/C 'cause you really don't use it that much. Gas will heat you your house quickly then the sun will take over and continue to keep things warm. Heat pump takes a little longer, but same thing happens once the sun comes out. Stay warm 2B.

Joe, I know those little electric space heaters use quite a bit of electricity, so I only run mine when I REALLY need it - in the Lanai when we need it for holiday parties ;-)

The air conditioners here are dual purpose and switch over to heat the house which I've only run for a few cycles to take the chill off in the mornings (like today!) There is frost on the rooftops here on the historic side and I am glad I covered my poinsettias, hibiscus and new roses.

What some call switch over AC units are heat pumps.
With temps 35 and above they are very efficient and will take the chill off quickly.

And since most do not run them continuously the additional $$ to the monthly bill are not significant.

I have a 3 bedroom ranch that is heated with gas and I average $40-45 a month during the winter months but my electric goes down about $60-70 so it is a good offset.

We have a 2 bedroom heated and cooled with a heat pump. I cycled ours this morning to take the chill off. I think we ran ours briefly 4 mornings last January. Our house seems to be very well insulated.

House is heated with gas. My summer gas bill is About $23. When the heat is on, it averages $35. House is 2200 square feet.

If your home is heated with gas it should not be particularly expensive to keep warm.

If you have a heat pump the thermostat should have an "emergency" setting. That is for days when it is extremely cold and the heat pump is not getting the job done. What that setting does is activate electrical heat strips to generate extra heat. That really gets the electric meter spinning and is quite expensive. You should seldom or never need to use that setting in central Florida.

Many people run the heat for a while when they get up in the morning to knock the chill off the air and then rely on the rising sun to maintain their comfort through the day.

You can also wear extra clothes or a sweater through the day.

By all means, stay warm.
