Default Question regarding clubs

Hey all:

Still pretty new here and having a blast. But, I have a question regarding the clubs. I have gone to several now, bunco, samba, triple play and a few others. Everyone has been super nice and I can't tell you how much I appreciate that. However, I am confused about the start times. For instance, if something starts at 6:00, if you actually get there a few minutes before six all the tables are full and everyone has started playing. Last night I went to Samba. The start time is 6:00. I got there at 5:30. I was the last one allowed in. Everyone had already started playing except my table. I asked about the start time and they said you needed to be there by 5:15 in order to get in. So.... then why is the start time 6:00? I am all for punctuality... as a matter of fact, I am kind of a nut about it. There are bunco games that you have to get there 45 min to an hour early in order to get a seat and then you sit there for 45 minutes to an hour waiting for the game to start. There are other things that I have been to that start at a certain time so I get there early and then end up waiting around for the doors to open. Please know this is not a complaint (I love the clubs), I am just trying to figure out how to know when I should be on time, be early or be really, really early! Any help on this?

No real help but be prepared to be there even earlier for the next few months. Usually, if you have to wait outside, it means that there was another activity in the room right before your game started and that means the organizers need to clean up, set up, etc. If the room has been empty, they usually let folks in right away.

The best way is to simply ask folks when you should show up. Most are more than happy to help you out with info (they just don't want to have to teach you how to play lol).

The start times will be much earlier until the end of March. I am so glad you are enjoying the clubs.

Not only is that the practice for different clubs - but even at my weekly poker game!

When I joined the group (this is a group of 6 guys), the starting time was 7pm. It gradually went to 6:45 and then to 6:30. Now, in order to get one of the good chairs (soft seat), you must get there at 6:10.

We have started joking that the host now should start serving Happy Hour and dinner to accomodate early arrivals.

Same with garage saling. If it says it opens at 8 it really opens much earlier.
